The Ultimate Nostalgia Playlist, Part 2

April 14, 2020 · CLASSMATES FUN

A while back, we were going through our yearbook archives and found pictures of famous musicians over the decades. Well, after creating a Classmates Spotify playlist of their songs, we realized there are so many more artists we could have highlighted.

Here’s part two of famous musicians’ yearbook photos and their most well-known songs!

Eddie Vedder

This Pearl Jam front man, born Edward Louis Severson III, was a junior at San Dieguito High School in Encinitas, California in 1981 and was part of the drama club. Yup, that’s Eddie Vedder!

Lenny Kravitz

This Beverly Hills High student graduated in 1982, but here he is as a Junior in 1981. Even back then, Lenny Kravitz was musical!

John Cougar Mellencamp

John J Mellencamp, A.K.A John Cougar Mellencamp, attended Seymour High School in Seymour, Indiana and graduated in 1970. He would later go on to write hits like “Jack and Diane,” “Hurts So Good,” and “Small Town”. Here he is as a senior on the left, and on the right as a sophomore in the photography club.

Buddy Holly

Buddy Holly is pretty recognizable here in his senior yearbook photo from Lubbock High School in 1955, perhaps because he had already started his music career by then. Sadly, he died just four years later in a plane crash, but his music still lives on.

Billy Ray Cyrus

William “Billy” Ray Cyrus was on the varsity football and baseball teams at Russell High School in Russell, Kentucky, but music was his passion. Here he is as a senior.

Diana Ross

Diana Ross graduated from Cass Technical High School in Detroit in January of 1962, where she studied Home Economics. Ross would find fame with The Supremes just a few years later before going solo in 1970. Her senior year class voted her “best dressed”, which you can see in the second photo.

Joan Jett

This high schooler, Joan Marie Larkin, was part of the drama club at Wheaton High School in Maryland before she graduated in 1974. She later changed her name to Joan Jett, where she found popularity in the groups The Runaways and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Peter Cetera

Here’s Peter Cetera as a senior in at Mendel Catholic Preparatory High School in Chicago in 1962. Very fitting, as he would later join the group Chicago in the late 1960’s. On the right is a picture of him in the Student Senate.

Jackson Browne

Jackson Browne was born Clyde Jackson Browne and graduated from Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, California. He was a senior in 1966 (left photo), and on the right is a picture of him as a sophomore.

Alice Cooper

Vincent Damon Furnier, A.K.A Alice Cooper, attended Cortez High School in Phoenix, Arizona. His 1965 sophomore yearbook photo is on the left, and on the right is him playing with high school band The Earwigs. He was also on the Cross Country and Track teams.

This list is really a broad range of artists, from the 1950’s and on. What did you think of the photos? You can sample some of their most famous songs below, and listen to them in full on our Spotify page.
