Looking Back at Some of Our Favorite Trapper Keepers

August 23, 2017 · CLASSMATES FUN

If you caught our recent back-to-school blog post, you might recall that Trapper Keepers were mentioned. For those who may be unfamiliar, this game-changing notebook system, introduced in 1978, consisted of a series of folders with vertical pockets, held together inside a binder with a secure closure. Even if you dropped your stuff in a rush to get to class, everything inside would stay secure, preventing you from having to scramble to gather up a bunch of loose papers. Genius.

As you’ve probably figured out, Classmates has a soft spot for this retro school supply, and we thought the subject deserved further attention. Without further ado, here’s a look back at some of our favorites:

Years before the internet, cats were already cool.

If you knew how many gigawatts of power the flux capacitor needed, this was definitely your Trapper Keeper of choice.

Do they still make these? Mine always had papers falling out. #trapperkeepers

Pretty much everyone had a friend who was crazy about horses. They probably carried this one around.

If this was your favorite, odds were pretty good that you spent a lot of time tanning during your summer vacations.

Lisa Frank designs were wildly popular, and you couldn’t help being cheered up if you had this one in your possession.

For those who liked their animals on the more dangerous side.

Of COURSE there was a Sonic the Hedgehog design in the ‘90s.

How many times did you sit in yet another stressful chemistry class wishing you could step into this tranquil scene? Lots of times.

Time to get more organized. Let me just get out my trapper keeper… #trapperkeeper #getorganized #1980s

So much to love about this one. The minds behind this scene apparently envisioned a future with lots of screens and too much junk food. Hmm.

The original solid-color Trapper Keepers were far from boring when you customized them. The Wacky Package stickers are awesome, but we especially like the “I LOVE E.T.” declaration in label maker tape.

Did you use one of these in school? Which design was your favorite?
