Unique Holiday Gift Ideas for 2018

November 20, 2018 · CLASSMATES FUN

The holiday season is nearly upon us. (Where did the time go?) And you’re probably starting to think about shopping for presents.

Whether this thought fills you with excitement or anxiety, we’re guessing some gift ideas might be welcome. (If you’re like us, you’re getting a little tired of handing out gift cards.)

With that in mind, we’ve put together a list to get you started:

For nostalgic video game fans, there’s the Nintendo Entertainment System’s NES Classic Edition. This is a smaller version of the classic 1985 Nintendo gaming system, and it comes complete with 30 games (The Legend of Zelda, Donkey Kong, PAC-MAN, Mario Bros., Galaga, and much more).

Are you talented in the kitchen? Are people always asking you for recipes? Compile a set of favorites, for an inexpensive and easy-to-make gift that will definitely be appreciated. (Or, as an alternative, make one of your specialties, and attach a copy of the recipe.)

Both kids and adults will dig these Light Stax electric light blocks (available as a set of either 36 or 102 interlocking pieces). Recipients can create their own illuminated constructions. A set would make a great nightlight or desktop display:

Do you have a friend whose ideal evening would be spent engaged in good conversation? Give them a set of TableTopics cards. Available in different subjects (Dinner Party, Family Gathering, What Would You Do, Happiness, Book Club, and many more), each set contains 135 cards that serve as compelling conversation starters.

Is there a creative child in your life? You can have one of their drawings turned into a custom stuffed toy through a company called Budsies. This is a gift that is sure to become a treasured keepsake. (Be warned, however: It might be tough to get this one in time for Christmas.)

Like many of us, you’ve got a ton of photos on your phone. Share the best ones with family and friends by creating a custom photo book. It can be surprisingly easy – and fun – to create one. Shutterfly lets you choose to do as much or as little of the layout work as you prefer, and there are nearly endless options for customization.

Is there someone on your list who is always writing or doodling in a notebook? They just might love a Rocketbook. With one of these (there are several models to choose from), the user can write or draw and then scan and send the contents to Google Drive, Evernote, Slack, and more. And most notebook models can be written on over and over.

For the nostalgic friend or relative on your list, surprise them with a Classmates yearbook reprint, available in hardcover or softcover. Maybe they never had a set of their own yearbooks. Or perhaps they’d love to get a copy of a parent’s or grandparent’s book. Or maybe they’d get a kick out of having a beloved celebrity’s yearbook. Check out our digital yearbook archive to preview any volume from cover to cover. (P.S. There’s a Friends & Family Sale happening 11/19/18 – 11/26/18.)

Sometimes, a simple written message is the most special gift of all. With any of these “Letters To…” sets, from Chronicle Books, you get a small collection of blank self-sealing letters and writing prompts. You can choose to give a brand-new set (perhaps Letters to My Future Self). Or write all the letters and give the completed set to a loved one.
