Former Lands' End and Nordstrom.com Executive Brings More Than 19 Years of Consumer Business Experience

RENTON, WA - Jan 15, 2003 - Classmates Online, Inc., an online community connecting friends, family, military and work colleagues, today appointed Michael Smith as president and chief executive officer. Smith has served as Classmates' interim CEO for the past three months.

Smith brings over 19 years of experience to Classmates including launching and managing consumer brands, increasing sales and profits, direct marketing and product development.

Smith has successfully launched and managed other leading consumer brands and their online operations. Prior to Classmates, Smith was president of Nordstrom.com, which he led from an approximate million loss to quarterly profit in less than 12 months. Previously, Smith served as president and chief executive officer of Lands' End Inc., the leading specialty apparel catalog in the United States, where he helped grow the company to over .4 billion in revenue and launched Landsend.com, the first major apparel Website.

"Serving as interim CEO over the last several months has given me an in-depth understanding of Classmates' business and growth opportunities," said Mike Smith, Classmates' president and chief executive officer. "With more than 33 million members, Classmates is the clear leader in reconnecting people online. Moving forward, we plan to offer even more services to our rapidly growing member base."

"At this stage in the Company's development, it was critical to find a candidate with experience driving online consumer brands," said Randy Conrads, Classmates' founder and chairman of the board. "Mike's background clearly met this criteria and we view his appointment as an important next step in increasing member registrations and renewals, and extending our market leadership position."
