Classmates Appoints Michael J. Smith Interim CEO

Former Lands' End and Nordstrom.com executive to head Company

RENTON, WA - Sep 27, 2002 - Classmates Online, Inc., a personal networking service connecting friends, family, military and work colleagues, today appointed Mike Smith interim chief executive officer. Michael Schutzler, former president and chief executive officer of Classmates, resigned his position, however, he will remain involved with the company on a temporary consultative role.

Smith has successfully launched and managed several leading consumer brands. Prior to Classmates, Smith was president of Nordstrom.com, a subsidiary of specialty fashion retailer Nordstrom, Inc. He led Nordstrom.com from an approximate $30 million loss to quarterly profit in less than 12 months.

Smith previously served as president and chief executive officer of Lands' End Inc., the leading specialty apparel catalog in the United States, where he helped grow the company to over $1.4 billion in revenue and launched Landsend.com, the first major apparel Website. During his 15-year tenure, Smith served key roles in several areas of the company including product development, marketing, merchandising research and circulation.

Smith is currently a board member at REI, and is a member of the University of Wisconsin Business School Advisory Board. He will officially join the company as interim chief executive officer on September 30, 2002.

Michael Schutzler joined Classmates in September 2000, when the Company had 7 million members. He leaves after building a member base of over 31 million and making Classmates one of the most recognized properties on the Web. Under Schutzler's guidance, the company has been profitable since October 2001.
