Mary's Story

Life 9 years ago, My hubby Reed took a city engineer job and we moved from Nebraska and up to North Dakota. Yes, I have heard of the weather and cold up here but NO we don't live in an Igloo! LOL! I am currently working as a Radio Announcer...My handle is "M*E (Emmy) Star" ME for Mary Edmonds...get it??? LOL! I am also a Visual Designer dressing up Manniquins and updating Pictorial Signage for a major dept store, climbing ladders, pounding nails and updating designs etc. I love it! I remarried in 2001... meeting Prince Charming and riding off in the sunset on a Harley...In 2011 I was blessed with the the title as Mrs. ND-America 2011 in the same year we celebrated our 10 yr anniversary ...coming back from West Virginia where the national pageant was held, Reed drove from ND to WV to meet me at the Mrs. America pageant. My sister joined us at that event. She was Mrs. Washington-America 1999. I had the honor to represent my state as Mrs. ND - America 2011 at the Mrs. America Pageant in West Virginia last spring. What an amazing journey to be there for 14 days and meet some incrediable women who I have had the privilege to keep in touch with as well. ... My oldest daughter has 2 boys 3 & 5 yrs which I graced the title as "Nana." They are a joy to be around with when I can see them... They got to event come up with Reed and us on a 9 hr drive which they did fabulously on that drive and spend a whole week here in ND with us. IT was a fun, hectic, packed full of excited, places to go and things to do. My hubby Reed has a daughter who has a little girl 3ys who is spunky and adorable as well. At 17 yrs of age, when I was getting ready to enter my senior year in High School, My parents moved from Bainbridge Island, Washington to Molalla, OR. Though it was so beautiful in Oregon, I longed to go back to my previous High School since I grew up with my classmates there on that island in the Puget Sound. However, My parents bought a small restaurant Cafe in a little town called Mulino and my sister and I got put to work in the Cafe as well as attend Molalla Union High School. I met some pretty neat people there but still wanted to go back and graduate at my previous high school, Bainbridge High. Sometimes I look back and wished I continued on and got to really know some of the really neat people I started to meet at Molalla. Some were, Cheryl Chelson, Gary Hull, Dianne Edwards, Ramona Zauner...and many more names ... One of my favorite classes at Molalla was Caligraphy. The Football coach was the teacher a quite a few of the football team was in that class. Funny though, those Calligraphy skills stayed with me for a very long time. I have used skills many times over. I also enjoyed many of the classes I started in taking .. I was only there for a quarter but I met some wonderful people that touched my heart even at that short time. Even though I went back to Bainbridge and graduated with those classmates, I won't forget Mollala. My sister, Cissi (Chung) actually graduated there and I had the privilege to come back down and spend my fall there in Mulino being a Para Temp which I enjoyed quite a bit. I was able to bring back cheerleading and get a squad that my little sister Minnie actually made on, I had a performing Gymnastics Squad that tumbled for a couple events at t...Expand for more
he elementary school there... until I left in January 75 to start at Trinity Western UNiv. in Canada. Thank you Class of 74 in Molalla Union High School for befriending me even for a short time. Growing up on BI was an experience to say the least. My house is no longer standing but an office building in it's place...Remembering trips in my dad's Rambler just to get gas in Poulsbo...(it was cheaper, so he thought) memories...I found when I was 21 I was given 3-5 more years to live after growing up with a Childhood Heart Defect. I had Open-Heart Surgery which was 27 yrs and 2 daughters ago who are now adults of my own and a step-daughter age 19. Life is different but good now. A former Flight Attendant until the company I worked for went bankrupt. I found my feet are still on the ground and then went to work at a Heart Hospital in communications ...seems that I have a knack to gab on the phone...but left that job and work for the state of NE. I work for the Ops Ctr Dept of Rds which we program the DMS boards you see on the Interstates etc.. and the cameras that keep us informed of traffic in our district along with imputing updates of the 511 line for Motorists looking for up to date Roadway information...so this job suits me. You have to be pretty attentive so my past Flight Attendant skills as being responsive to safety had come in handy. I am a license Cosmetologist, Professional Make-Up Artist, Beauty Queen and am a Image Enhancement speaker for Women. I love cooking, entering Cooking Contests and watching Movie Videos... I am the creator of the project called the Nebraska Women Success Quilt. You can see this at: risingreflections.eshire.net. College I started Trinity w/ thoughts of working in Public Relations/Elementary Ed, Gymnastics & Cheerleading. With the help of one of the administrators, I was able to Produce, Direct & Instruct Cheer Camps there on Campus in the summer for 2 years and then I went on Free-lancing Cheer Camps that ended up as a Career for 15 yrs. I met my ex there at the college and since I no longer am married to him, I have pulled myself away from those memories of college days. I found after TWC I was diognoised w/ a continuous Heart Defect that I had been living since a child. I faced Open-HEart Surgery and a 2nd chance to live. (They told me I was facing 3-5 yrs w/ out it.) I married Tom Walters for 21 yrs but no longer could go on living w/ this person who could not be responsible for his actions, alcohol problems and made bad financial choices. We had 2 daughters which are on their own now... He needs a lot of prayer. I found my close faith w/ GOd got me thru and have a good relationship w/ my daughters. Life does go on... I have remarried and am quite happy now. I had the chance to pursue a lifelong dream which was to be a Flight attnd., but due to the huge impact of 9-11, the company I worked w/ ceased operations and went bankrupt. I am momentarily on the ground...as I tell people... Thinking of my college days... Would I not chose to go to TRinity Western, I may not lead the path of life I am on now... do I regret? No. I know God has reasons. I just pray that Tom will see the light and God again and pick up the pieces to make himself right again. I hope this finds many of you that I once knew in Good Health. God Bless you all.
