Pat Carney's Story

Life Pat Carney is the namesake of a Minneapolis creative firm, The Carney Group, Incorporated. His origins are in the print media. He edited his high school newspaper and yearbook, St. Mary’s of Devils Lake, North Dakota (‘67). Pat was photography editor, on the Dakota Student, the student newspaper at the University of North Dakota, with editor-in-chief, Mike Jacobs. He studied under Pulitzer Prize winner Colburn Hvidsten III and later edited the University’s yearbook, Dacotah (‘71). After college Mr. Carney spent seven years at Jostens as a designer and workshop specialist. He participated in more than 120 workshops a year, including presentations at Columbia University, Louisiana State University and the University of Massachusetts. as followed by several years work in animated film for television at Minneapolis based Lamb & Company. The Carney Group. is a rich blend of diverse creative talents that has grown steadily over the last few years to a creative group that now has a client base including Public Radio International, ASI/DataMyte, Donaldson Company, Anchor Paving Stones and Anchor Wall, Victory Motorcycle, Hazelden Treatment Center, AAA Minnesota/Iowa, General Mills and Jostens. ASSOCIATIONS AND CIVIC BACKGROUNDS: Member of the Graphic Design Advisory Board of the University of Minnesota and past member the Board of Directors for American Institute of Graphic Arts. Pat is involved in a variety of civic projects and charitable activities including Harrison/Bryn Mawr Redevelopment Oversight Committee and pro-bono design work for The Center for Victims of Torture, Three Legged Race Theater Company and His Holiness, the Dalai Lama.
