Thomas L's Story

Life! School wasn't always everything in life to me... From 1960 on I made my own tracks in this world. I married in '63 and helped raise a daughter and son, divorced 20 years later. The best ever that come out of marriage was Deborah, now Deborah Safari with Mike and Steven (Steve) and Tomi. Deb was the first to bear the first grand Son, Cameron and first grand Daughter,Camilia. Not long after, Steve and Tomi allowed Macklin to join the group as my third grand child. I've traveled all over the USA, and some of the world including Europe. Most interesting and educational were Belgium,France,Germany and the wall in Berlin when it was there,Austria,Switzerland,Italy and Sicily, then later on downunder for 6 months to Australia, then over to New Zealand. Throw in a couple of Cruises and several trips to different areas of Mexico and the garden spots in the islands south east of Florida, I cannot seem to get enough of treking around the world. With six months in Australia ,an education with a capital E, I traveled the entire country during that time, learning all I could about the English and the history and culture of the Aboriginal past. The English were not a good lot just as our own government was not with the Indians of past. I have journals, pictures, audio and video of this tour that I am catogorizing into a book of interest, no title yet. In 2000 I attended Mardi Gras in Lafayette, Louisiana as I had for the previous 12-14 years and was introduced to Wanda, I nicknamed her Wendy, and This year we will be married. This has been a full glass, or a great life as it goes. I still have great health and continue to work. I enjoy traveling and writing some. Hope to write professionally soon as I am putting together my entire travels and future ones on line as my books to be. Wendy and I had been planning a trip to Mexico to top all the other trips and or vacations we enjoyed together while traveling there. We decided on Puerto Vallarta. Arriving during the fall in October of 2006, we had already prepared ourselves by corresponding with the hotel we would be staying in the greater City Center. The Las Palmas Hotel and Convention Center was, with many other businesses, hit hard by a Hurricane in 2002. Some of the area, including many hotels still show the severe strike this storm dumped on the entire coast from Vallarta up north to San Blas and beyond. The entire visit throughout the entire city and to San Blas was wonderful. We will take an extended trip again in the near future to visit new friends we met while enjoying the region. Arriving back home rested and ready to start working again, we were shocked on Halloween night, early Nov 1st with a emergency Phone call that Wendy's Son Matt had been killed by a drunk driver in Ruston Louisiana. The time was set at 12:00 a.m. (midnight). After attending the funeral and spending a few days to return to reality of what had happened, it was time to return home saddened by this senseless killing. UPDATE......Wendy is now in Lafayette Louisiana with one of her sons, while the other in Ruston with family, still ask why and how this could happen. The Trial date for the person that killed Matt is set for June 12, 2007. This is his second drunk driving citation with this one being one with death on his record. We can only wait till the entire story of his past and the present day is presented and see if the prosecution will get what they want, that being a Prison Sentence of at least 10 years. I will update as soon as the trial is finished and sentence is passed. UPDATE,UPDATE... Sentence was given on August 21,2007 and the Killer of Matt will spend 8,(Eight years) in one of the most well known, Angola, outside of New Orleans. Time will tell if he can handle this private club of the worst on earth, in the USA of course. He will enter these gates on October 15,2007. UPDATE:---------------------------------- WENDY WAS KILLED IN An AUTO ACCIDENT ON HER WAY HOME FROM SO. LOUISIANA TO RUSTON. I HAVE LOST MY LOVING SWEETHEART SO I WILL TRAVEL AND VISIT ALL THE COUNTRIES WE TALKED ABOUT AND TALK WITH HER AS I TRAVEL, AS IF SHE IS ALONG SIDE OF ME, OF WHICH I BELIEVE SHE IS. Traveled to Mexico again to Caretake a Ranch and Ranch Home in Chihuahua State near Copper Canyon, outside of "Yepachic" in the Mountains. I accepted ...Expand for more
this position for late August 2009 thru November 2009. Returned to California to visit Daughter Deborah, Son in Law and Grand Children Cameron and Camilia for Thanksgiving and also worked with my Son in Law,Mike Safari with the patio and new yard work. I left California late Nov. and visited with Son,Steve and Daughter in Law Tomi, Grandson Macklin. Driving to Wyoming to visit other family before Christmas. Visited My Mother who is in a Life Care facility in Longmont Colorado and doing very well at 94. A touch of Dementia, but a cracker when she starts talking. Visited with Brother John and Daughter in law Theresa in Henderson Co. . On to Texas to catch up on a couple of cousins on my Fathers side of the family with pictures of old and with a week under my belt I was ready to drive toward Mexico for another Caretaking position in the Yucatan. I entered Mexico at Brownsville Texas-Matamoros Mexico. I have always wanted to visit Veracruz and learn more of the history of its past and it was very exciting and well worth the trip.Museums and Navy Yard and Port all educational. Well, Merida, I am on the way. The Yucatan and the upper Gulf is calling. Arrived on Jan 28th,and met with the owner of the House I will be living in through June 30th 2010. The house is in the South of Centro, the center of town, and in a very historical neighborhood. Average age of most of the shotgun houses built with cement and bricks and stones from long time ago is 200-400 years old. It is a very nice neighborhood and easy to cohabitate with the Mexicans and Mayans. I am 25 miles from the Gulf at Progreso and this is where to go when the heat begins to rise. Temp is average 75-85 Jan-early March. Then it starts to heat up a few days at a time with 95-107. This is continuous beginning after April and I hear that it is hard to live with, not only the heat, but the Humidity of 85-100 percent. But that's what the Gulf is for. Jump in and cool off for a few hours or meet up with some expats from the States or Canada with a pool, as I have done and it is great. A glass of wine or cerveza in either hand and let er go. I have been ask if I wanted to tour Cuba for a local Magazine Company and with a slant toward my feelings from the USA. I will be leaving for Havana on April 11,2010 and return to Merida April 20,2010. Throw in a few Mayan Ruins and maybe Cancun and La Playa on the Caribbean, and also maybe Belize as a weekender, Oh Yeah! See you all Aug 6-8 2010 for that great squeeze from the past. I, of course am not through traveling. I look forward to Central America;Guatamala,Honduras, and Costa Rica. Then on down to Panama and out to sea with the vehicle on a Barge and over to Ecuador. Once there this could be the Retirement Area I have been looking for, after all the reading and listening to families living there. Inexpensive living and at the high altitude great for your health. The month to return to Mexico is approaching and I will be leaving the States on October 15,give or take a few days. I will return to Merida in the Yucatan for several months before traveling south toward Central and South America. Until then, Merida is it and enjoy family of friends (expats) while I nurse on a cerveza and discuss the time I enjoyed at the Class reunion in early August 2010. Updates will follow. Returning to Mexico in the Yucatan October 11,2010. Will return to the States sometime in April 2011. Well time is up and the day is coming for me to return home. I will fly from Merida,Yucatan to Houston the morning of April 4,2011 and continue on to Denver to retrieve my vehicle in storage. An overnight with Brother John and Theresa then on to Longmont to visit with MOM. Cheyenne will be next for a short time to catch up on news from cousins and friends. I hope to return to Cheyenne in Aug 2011 for the 1961 Reunion to visit with friends. June 15,2011- Still in California and planning to be in Cheyenne for a Family reunion on July 30, then overstay to attend the class reunion for 1961 to visit with friends from the past. Til then. So, this is the end of my story on CLASS MATES. I am retired in Apache Junction, Arizona. Travel to California to visit my Daughter Deborah and Son in Law, Cameron, and Camilia my grandchildren. Visit my Son and family,in Scottsdale Az.,Steve,Tomi-lynn,and Macklin my Grandson often.
