Richard's Story
Life
It's been a good year here. Hope it's been a good one for you! Richard started his Ph.D. in social work at Ohio State University here in Columbus, Ohio, in September 1999. He began with a graduate assistantship and moved up to a teaching assistantship this September. For someone who dislikes teaching, he does okay. However, he says he's not a teacher, he is an "imparter of knowledge." Next year he should begin his dissertation.
Sarah began her freshman year at a small Christian college in Toccoa, Georgia, Toccoa Falls College in northeast Georgia in September of 1999. She has done marvelously, especially considering, one month after beginning, she was suddenly 550 miles from home. She is majoring in music, voice performance. She taught herself to play the clarinet last year, became a member of the band this year, and is now teaching herself to play the flute. She doesn't talk a lot, but she sounds like a bird! 3.9 grade point average, so we are understandably proud of her.
Becky lives in Elizabethton, Tennessee, and is going to school at East Tennessee State University. She doesn't communicate a lot, but we hear she is doing well. She also works two jobs and is buying her own home, so she is very busy. We are proud of her, too.
Kassi married Stephen Robinson this year. She and Stephen and Bryce, who is 3, live in Bristol, Tennessee. Kassi works in Elizabethton for the housing authority, and Stephen goes to school at East Tennessee State University and works construction. Stephen also plays drums for a Christian rock band named Serenade. They have just made a CD for a small Christian music company, so watch for them in your Christian bookstore.
Richard's Mom died in July of 1996. She had Alzheimer's and had not known any of us for a good while, so it was a blessing. We know she's in a better place.
