Irene's Story

Life Life has been interesting. It changed a lot when my older brother John passed away. Since I have a supportive family, a younger brother who makes me laugh and a terriffic son (who is my shining star) life just gets better everyday. Do drop a line. I'll definitely write back! As for "what would surprise everyone at my high school reunion?"... not much but maybe that I didn't marry my high school sweet heart. The teacher that I'd love to see again...maybe Ms. Bruno and Sister Joanita from HFS and Ms. Gonzalez and Sra. Lanza. The wildest thing I ever did in school: Elementary ~ absolutely nothing! I was a shy good-goody. High School ~ Reading "inappropriate" magazines during study hall with a nun in charge. My first crush...lets see: Elementary ~ M. Pearce...he blew me off like a bad cold..ouch! I hope my friends remember me as a nice person who was kind. To be truly happy I would be with an unnamed individual in my dream home with my son & dog just living the American dream... hopefully in the suburbs somewhere nice. Then traveling with my family around the world doing new things and learning about nature, cultures and traditions... maybe a new language as well as arts & crafts. The biggest surprise in my life is that I'm a mom with an incredible son/family and life is sooo wonderful! With one do-over in life I'd probably do one thing differently...have more than one child without being so afraid of "what if..." The weirdest job I've ever had was working in a biology lab in college. I had to pick up 10 lb. rats to clean their cages/tanks; as well as mate drosphilia for an inhereted traits study. It's funny that though I've traveled a lot I have pretty much lived ...Expand for more
most of my life in the house I grew up in. Yes I moved out during college and several years after graduating but I came back. Luckily to an apartment just above my parents in the same house. I love having grown up with my extended family and now having my son experience the same. I blow off steam by: distance walking, shovling snow, dancing and chatting with my the ones I trust. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to my family, then spend the rest on investments/son's future, a few vacation homes and world travel. I lived on the Pleasantville and Briarcliff campuses of my University. The best time was being a R.A. in an all male section of a dorm. My current age is 45. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be grey, old and tired. I was so completely wrong. My best friend would tell you I'm sensitive, silly funny and a great friend, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as someone different. I'm still kind of conservative but that is mostly for work and the general public. Things are different around my family & friends...especially when I'm with that special someone. I share my home with my son, dog and extended family, which I find fabulous. Janice Sotomayor is my oldest and dearest friend. I've have to say we are sisters. We met when our mother's became friends when they were "expecting" us. I'm not sure why we clicked but we did from infancy and are still as tight as ever. My first job was at the Bronx Zoo, where I got paid what ever minimum wage was to serve ice cream and beer. What I remember most about it is how much fun I had creating huge cones and headless beer; including getting to know all of the exhibits.
