Michelle's Story
Life
I spent 5 years in the Air Force and went on to be an Army wife for 20. I published a book, "Murder on the Wheel of Fortune" that came out in October 2000. After moving around a lot (Alaska, Germany, Alabama, Georgia to name a few), courtesy of Uncle Sam, I returned to NJ in August of 2000 and am now a workaholic - oops, I mean a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. The little free time I have is taken up with reading, writing, needlework, jewelry and soap making and family. In the photo - I'm still the shortest one in the light blue suit.
School
Hmmm, High school was not my favorite time and I was usually bored. I always wished I was somewhere else.
College
I started college right out of HS at Essex County College in Newark Nj. Got bored and joined the Air Force. After I got married and had my daughter, I finally got serious about college and got my EMT certification at the City Colleges of Chicago in Landstuhl Germany, then on to U of Maryland in the Stuttgart area military bases for my bachelor's in Psych (minor in S...Expand for more
oviet Gov't). After that it was Troy State University in Dothan, Al for my Master's in Counseling Psych.
Workplace
Since I was an Army wife for 20 years, I had a lot of jobs. Every time we moved, I had to change jobs again. It took until I got back home to NJ to get the job of my dreams as a Licensed Clinical Drug and Alcohol Counselor at Straight and Narrow in Paterson. I also worked part time for the Bergen County Dept of Health's Addiction Recovery Program. Well, I flip-flopped my jobs and now work full time at the Addiction Recovery Program and part time at Straight and Narrow. When I was offered the position of Senior Alcoholism Counselor at ARP it was too good to refuse, but the challenges at S&N were too worthwhile to leave behind.
Military
I loved my time in the military and would recommend it for most people. It was a great experience and a way to grow up. And see the world at the same time, if you don't waste the opportunities. I met some great people and have some wonderful memories, especially from Berlin and Elmendorf.
