Debra's Story
Life
After graduation, in 1979, I went to college at the University of Southern Colorado and graduated with a certificate in Nursing. I had to retire in 1990 due to an injury. I became a housewife, mother and grandmother after that. After a very bad marriage I decided to wait until I could find the perfect man. I've been in touch with Mary McCord but no one else. I lived in Mexico for awhile and that was not enjoyable. The towns are very poor and depressing especially the border towns. (That was with my second husband)
I haven't been able to attend the reunions but plan on attending the next one planned. I guess that would be the 40 yr reunion. I look forward to seeing all my old friends. I came to Dallas after a 30 yr absence, for my grandfather's funeral in '05. I went out to Carter and was surprised to find that nothing had changed. Even the seal placed by the class of 68 was still intact. I really expected to see things destroyed. I've spoken with the old band director, Mr Rumbley and was surprised to find that he's still drumming professionaly.
I remarried on Aug. 23 of 2002. The wedding was beautiful, considering we planned it and completed it in under 2 weeks time. I think I have actually found the perfect man. I guess perserverence pays off. Met him on the NET!!! Unbelievable. We are exactly the same in all that we do and believe. we are very involved in music and church activities. I inherited 4 more children with this marriage. 2 boys and 2 girls. I now have a total of 7 beautiful grandchildren. They are 17, 16, 10, 9, 7, 6,and 4. I...Expand for more
love them very much.
In 2004 we had the privaledge of going to New York City to sing Handels "Messiah" at Carnegie Hall. That was an honor that we will remember for the rest of our lives. We look forward to the opportunity to return and sing there again. While in New York we went to see "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway. All we could say was WOW!!!! We were so taken with the production that when we moved down here we went through Las Vegas and saw it again at the new Phantom theater. I almost have to say that the production in Vegas beat the one in New York hands down, almost.
We moved to Texas in Aug of '06 to care for my ailing parents. We were living out in Valley View until we put them both in a nursing home. After that we moved to Sanger, where we now reside in our cute little 5th wheel trailer. (We want to be Snowbirds after we have finished watching over my Mom) My Dad passed away this past Jan. He was in very poor health but did not suffer at all. He passed peacefully after about 4 hrs in a coma.
Upon returning I had the opportunity to meet my half brothers and sisters. Their father was my mothers first husband. It turned out that we had only lived just a few miles from each other all this time and never knew it.
We are singing with Denton Community Chorus now and really enjoy it. We have been having a great time here but we are ready to return to Washington as it is just to hot for us!! Besides, we want to be closer to our grandchildren. We miss them terribly.
I am looking forward to the next reunion and seeing old friends again.
