Elaine's Story
Well, let's see. After graduation I went to Steven's Henager for 18 months and got my Secretarial Science degree. Came back to Price and my first job was at Mountain States Machinery. I was engaged to Jim (Santiago) Sandoval and we got married in July of 1971. Yes, we just celebrated our 37th year anniversary. He graduated from CEU and we transferred to Weber State University in 1973 and have lived in Ogden qand never left. We have four children, Maria, Santiago Jr., Melinda and Antonio. I just retired from Weber State after 35 years. I started as secretary to the Director of Ethnic Studies and moved with him to all of the promotions he got. Eventulally, I was given the opportunity to move from a classified position to a professional position (Program Administrator). us locations in Ogden, Clearfield and Layton. I was brought back to campus to run the Conferences, Study Abroad and International Programs for the University. I was in a freak (too long to explain) accident in Columbus, Ohio, and eventually had to retire because of the medical problems. When I left, I was working with the Concurrent Enrollment Program. So now I do what I want when I want (or when my aching body lets me.) I have gone through four surgeries and will have to go through another two (all because of the accident). By the time I get through, I will be the Bionic Woman--I hope!
While I was over the Conferences I got to work with many people but my most memorable were Miya Angelo, John Douglas (the original Profiler), many authors and poets, and Henry Winkler. He actually gave me a kiss on the cheek right on Washington Boulevard.
