Life
My Pets
Three dogs and three cats. All neutered and spayed - I am VERY popular with my vet clinic staff!
My Job
I'm a supervisor at my county's 9-1-1 Center. I manage the GIS electronic mapping database and, up until January 2006, worked on occasion as a telecommunicator, handling emergency telephone calls and dispatching fire departments and ambulance crews. I "retired" from that part of the job, but have my office located across the hall from the Dispatch Center so I can run to their aid if they get swamped during a major event.
College
I was a music major, psychology minor. Wrote nearly every psych paper the night before it was due! Got a C on one term paper because the professor KNEW I did that and told me so.
Workplace
Out of college I taught public school music in Louisa, Virginia for one year. Not my cup of tea! Next I moved into the public sector, working for the Securities Investor Protection Corporation in D.C. as a membership clerk full-time. On my own time...Expand for more
I worked as a private piano and voice teacher and sang professionally for churches and with choral groups in the Washington, D.C. area. The SIPC work led to a membership clerk position at the Printing Industries of America in Arlington. When my marriage failed, I moved to sunny L.A. (Lower Alabama) and worked several jobs as a temp, finally ending in, again, a clerking position for the County. Now I was an "addressing" clerk, supposed to assign street addresses for new structures in Baldwin County. That led to being hired by the newly-established 911 center as a dispatcher and addressing clerk. 23 years later and I'm still with 911, having moved up through the ranks. I have continued all these years singing professionally for opera and choral groups and churches, and taught GED classes for a local community college on my off-time from the 911 work. Not teaching now, and not singing much, either.
I love watching television and movies, and eating out. Still do a bit of reading.
