Patrick's Story
Life
After Rice, I joined the Brothers, attended St. Gabriel's Junior College and then Iona. My first assignment was Bishop Kearney H.S., then a beginning institution. From the first I taught English, Latin and Religion, coached track & field and moderated the drama club. I continued my studies at Manhattan and was transferred to Antigua
in 1966. I continued studies at Seton Hall with a Masters in Counseling Psychology. Previously I had majored in Classical Languages. I returned stateside and taught in various Brothers' schools but always with an outside job counseling in clinics or as a prison chaplain.
In 1975 I went to Peru where I worked for five years. On my return I took a leave of absence. During this time I drove a bus for NYC Transit.

om the Center for Peace and Justice in NYC. I worked in the Tombs at night and was offered a full-time chaplaincy. But in 1985 I went to Liberia where I worked with the British Province. I returned after two years as my Mother got back cancer and my family asked me to return. I went into counseling full time and also worked as a pastoral associate in Schenectady's Hamilton Hill area.
My biggest setback came in 1993 with the first of five operations for colon cancer and in the middle of that a quadruple bypass after a heart attack. By May of 1994 I had gone to work in Florida working with the migrants.
My last assignment has been to teach and
direct the program for permanent deacons here in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It suits me healthwise, socially and intellectually, but I miss commnity. Hopefully I will finish this program in June of 2002.
