Donna's Story
Life
After graduating from college in 1968, I taught school for two years. Then I met a guy who was in the Army. Some people thought I was crazy because we became engaged six days after meeting. I knew a little bit around the military because my dad was in the Air Force. I quit my job, sold my car, and left the country. We were married in Baumholder, Germany, in September 1970. The installations that we were stationed at were Baumholder, Germany; Fort Hood, Texas; Frankfurt, Germany; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and Schofied Barracks, Hawaii. yed in the Fort Hood area until August 2007. When we were stationed at Fort Sill, I began working for the Department of the Army as a clerk-typist. When I retired at the end of March 2006, I was a technical editor. I worked as a civil servant for over 21 years. My husband and I have two children--a girl and a boy. Our daughter is married and has blessed us with two granddaughters, born in 1999 and 2001. In August 2007, after my husband retired from civil service (after approximately 12 years), we moved to the Fort Worth area to be close to our children and granddaughters. Our son also lives in Fort Worth. We are enjoying our life as a retired, fancy-free couple. We have found that saying about being busier now that when we worked to be true!
