Tom's Story
Hi I'm Tom Kasner.... This is what I submitted to Survivor 19 on an open casting call ...
I was building campfires and tents from logs and tarp, long before 1961.
Winter and summer alike, I lived for 14 months in a tent that I (with help) built . I went on a 3 mo bus trip around the state of Texas from Big Bend to Tyler, living in pup tents and cooking all meals with and for a group of 12. I've traveled in that group... 300 miles on the kiamechi and great Red rivers in 3 canoes from Whitesbouro OK to Sreaveport LA.
I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane over Paris tx. and free dived to 60 ft in possum kingdom lake.
I hiked to the top of Half Dome in Yosemite, 3 times and camped up there once. I've crossed clouds rest and hiked towolomy meadows trail.
I've been to the top of the highest mountain in the world (if measured from the bottom) in Guam, been inside a jap tank and into a cave where no human had been before.
...Expand for more
I hiked around the meteor creator in AZ and rode a bicycle thru parts of the petrified forest. I've snorkeled with the fish in the Bahamas and been to Disney World
I've built french drains, stone walls, roofs and dug tunnels. I have rebuilt car clutches in the side of the road, and rode nearly a quarter of a million miles on a motorcycle.
I built my first telescope at the age of 14 and today am the president of Altoona's astronomy club.
I made a working spear gun and a bamboo fly fishing pole at 16, and built my own design of a 9 speed bicycle the same year.
I've built a 5 tube radio, a one arm therman, a 25" color TV and a 20' satellite dish
I can make most any tool from materials around... and can use them.
Today I design and build electronic Magic props sold worldwide, and maintain a 106 year old house here in Altoona PA
And thou many of these things I've done in my past, I still do these and more today.
