Sherry's Story

Life I moved with my family from Buckhannon, WV to Huntington, WV at the end of the 9th grade. I still remember my junior high years and all my friends from Buckhannon fondly. I would love to hear from them and to know what happened to them all. I am, surprisingly enough, still located in Huntington. I married my high school sweetheart, Paul Hatfield (Barboursville '76) in 1979 but divorced 5 years later. I remarried in 1989 and had a beautiful daughter in 1990. I attended MU. I have worked for Marshall University in the Computing Services Dept. for nearly 23 years now. My life for the last 16 years has been centered around my amazing daughter. Alyssa is now a Junior at Huntington High School where she is an honor student, a varsity cheerleader, an editor on the school newspaper, and a member of the Yearbook staff. She is also a member of the student council, and involved in more clubs than I care to mention! Since she was a competitive figure skater for 5 years and an all-star cheerleader for 3 years, I've been busy keeping up with her schedule and traveling to all her activities. I thank God daily that she is driving now!! I would love to hear from old friends! School My family traveled a lot during my school years. I lived in Buckhannon, WV during my Junior High years. I remember "dating" Mike Tenney. Mike's cousin Bruce "dated" one of my best friends. Elizabeth "Elaine Dawson, Rocinda Bowes and Jerry Canterbury were my closest friends. I've always wondered what happened to them and to Cliff Shaluta. Workplace Funn...Expand for more
y. I had a couple of jobs in High School. I worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Hannan as part of the distributive education program at HEHS. Here I learned that I did NOT want to be a dentist or a dental hygenist. lol. I did teen-modeling (fashion board) and worked at the Smart Shop in the Cosmetics Dept. and modeled in the Anderson Newcomb bridal fashion show. Then I did a stint at the old 5th Ave. Kentucky Fried Chicken - because one of my best friends (Brenda Jude) worked there. Whoa! Was that a strange job or what? She quit eventually to take a manager's position at Long John Silver's, but I stayed there for a little over a year. Most fast food jobs included the "benefit" of eating a meal for free during your shift at work. We soon got sick of eating the same thing every day, so for over a year, we networked with friends from school who worked as employees in the fast food restaurants that lined 5th Ave. from 20th St. - 29th St. to "trade" lunches. It was great! We ate KFC, Long John's,McDonald's, Stewarts, Burger King, Arby's, BBF, Wiggins, and even Gino's for free! The rest of my work-life has been pretty tame. A couple of years in a bank where I started in computers and decided to major in computing in college, then a Computer Operator's job at Tidewater Supply until they went out of business. A 6-month stop-gap Hotel Asst.Manager's stint at what is now the Radisson Hotel in downtown Huntington, until I was finally hired at Marshall University, where I have been ever since! I can't believe I've now spent 23 years in the same job! :)
