Joanne's Story
Life
After graduation my first job in the industry was Illustrating how to sew at Butterick and Vogue Pattern company along with another A&D alumni Anna Casalino ('65). I sometimes have dreams of being back in Classes at A&D and riding up and down those escalators. I remained in New York and became a Fashion Designer on Seventh Ave. for mostly Blouse and Ladies Sportswear houses in the 525 Building for 10 years (Gregory & Goldberg, Miss H. Blouse, Camilla Blouse & Jamboree Blouse and Sptswr.) I lived in Astoria Queens and then moved to Manhattan for a few years on East 72nd Street. I married in 1978 to a childhood friend from Astoria. We were reunited through friends 20 years later after not seeing him since he was 9 years old. We have 2 children and enjoy living upstate. My oldest (Katy)is 21 (1979)and is graduating this May from the University of Buffalo (Psyc & Communications ) and would like to go into Advertising. My Son Bill is 17 (1983)and will be Graduating from Mohonasen High (2001)and is going to Oneonta to major in Art, music and teaching. I managed to find work up here and was a Tech/Creative designer for Ursula of Switzerland f...Expand for more
or 7 years. I now have my own design business and have 2 websites for FADSINC and tenniswearonline.(closed now) I would love to hear from anyone that remembers me. I rode the buses with Eileen Dembitski, Trish Weiner, Louise Schmidt, Rosalind Baldasano and Anna (Casalino) Hertzner. I have never been to a class reunion. Did we ever have one? I enjoyed my years at A&D and discovered that my husband's uncle John O'Neal was one of the first group of teachers to start F.I.T. There is a photo of him in the ground breaking of the campus. I also design bags, backpacks, and child carriers and acessories for a local company just a few minutes from my home at "Tough Traveler". I've been to shows at Salt Lake City representing them. My husband works for the NY State Tax Dept. as an Administrator. I don't get down to NY much. I would love to hear from anyone!
2009 Update: I did go to some of the reunions and had a great time. It was good to see old friends.I am now retired but do some consulting work as well as some draping and patternmaking classes. I mostly enjoy my granddaughter and my mom now lives with us. Life is a slower pace now and I love it.
