Nicole's Story

Life Hi Girls' High Class 237! Who would have thought that I would be Married and have a child. Not me but here I am Mrs. Nicole Matthews. My Husband Tyrone Jr. I met in August 1993 and we were married on December 31, 1999. But before we got married we had a BOUNCING, and I do mean a bouncing Baby boy, his name is Tyreke Jaleel, born February 28, 1999. I now work for Aetna U.S. Healthcare doing Customer Service answering the phones. Believe it or not I still live, rather now I rent the house that I grew up in. My mother moved back to California in 1998 to care for her elderly mother so until such time as she returns I am living in the same house I moved into 23 years ago when I was adopted. e three years ago above. In February of this year I was diagnosed with a heart condition that in all likehood should have killed me. I have what is called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. And it is genetic so my bouncing baby boy has a 50/50 chance of also having it. So far he shows little to no signs of this disease. HCM as it is called causes the heart muscle inside to thicken and blood flow to be compromised, it also causes the outer wall of the heart to become stiff also causing a compromise in the flow of blood. Currently I have been out of work for almost a year and I am in the process of traveling to Boston in December to have open heart surgery. I hope that this disease has not been passed on to my son but the more I watch him the more I see little things that may be early indicators.
