Alex's Story
Life
I have three children, a married daughter who is a lawyer in Tennessee. She is married to a young lawyer and they had their first child, a son, in late 2005, and a daughter the following year. I also have two sons, one 16 and the other 11. At my age they are a constant challenge. My first born son was killed by a drunk driver in 1986, shortly after his 7th birthday. My wife is several years younger than I am - I highly recommend it to any of you who are considering a May-December relationship. I really got lucky - lovely woman, great wife and mother - she is a licensed professional couselor and gets to practice her trade on me almost every day. Also have two cats, sisters, who rule the house, and a stray dog we adopted that loves to sleep in the house.
School
CCHS until 1965, and then Indian Springs School through graduation in 1967. I had more fun and more friends than I deserved at both schools, and I think I was very very lucky to have had both experiences. t where I needed a change and, luckily, my parents helped me make the right change. I always expected to go off to college, and I did and I certainly got a good education by doing so, but in a way it really felt good to come back to Alabama for law school and for the rest of my life (I guess I'll be here that long). I seldom see old friends, and I dearly miss so many of them. I probably owe about half of them an apology and the other half a big hug for putting up with me.
College
Bachelor of Arts, University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill in 1971; Juris Doctor, University of Alabama, January 1974; Admitted to the Alabama State Bar in April 1974. Taught legal ethics and real property law at Jones School of Law in Montgomery for about 10 years but had to give it up as my primary job consumed more and more of me and my time.
Workplace
Senior Staff Attorney, Alabama Supreme Court. What do I do? I research and write opinions and other legal writings for the Court.
Military
The military was a trip I did not have to take. I appreciate those of you who did.
