Joseph's Story

After enjoying 30+ years in business, I made a career change into teaching for another 15 years.. I received my doctorate in management at Claremont Graduate University in 2004. My wife and I left So. Cal in 2001 when I accepted a teaching position in Ellensburg, WA. I taught strategic management and accounting at Central Washington University for 5 1/2 years. I loved teaching at CWU, but the pay was below par so in 2006 I accepted a teaching position at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. We moved to Rolla, MO. What a mistake!! Marilyn hated the midwest and I hated the job. The school has a good reputation in engineering, but the business program was new and weak despite a few excellent faculty members-most of whom have since left or would like to leave MS&T. Good students at MS&T, but poor leadership at the University and Department levels. We moved to Idaho in summer 2008, where I taught accounti...Expand for more
ng at the University of Idaho. Another mistake!! The accounting program was a big disappointment and the winters in Northern Idaho are long and cold. In Nov 2009, we moved back to Gavilan Hills, CA area (near Riverside / Corona / Perris) only a 1/4 mile south of were we lived from 1990-2002. Love the rural area, but hot in summer. We lost our last Arabian horse (down from 8 many years ago) in 2016. Enjoyed our nearly 40 year with horses, but nice to be free to travel, etc. I planned to retire when we came back to CA in 2009, but accepted a full time position teaching business at DeVry University in Pomona until I retired for good in Sept. 2013. Enjoying travel now. Did an Alaska cruise in June 2015 and a "Grand European" river cruise in Sept. 2015. In 2016 we did a Caribbean cruise and a Mediterranean cruise. In 2017 cruised the Baltic and Norway coast.. I'd love to hear from my classmates at HPHS, CMC or CGU/Drucker.

On our way back to So Cal. Mountains surrounding Telluride are snow covered after 2 days of rain in town. Need to get back to some warmer So Cal weather though.
