Julie's Story

Life Alive and well in Southeast Alaska. I've been here since 1987. Prior to that I spent 1976-83 in the Army, 5 of those years in Germany. From 1983-87 I was going to College in Tacoma. I have two sons; Zachary is a SFC (E7) and is stationed in Mannheim, Germany. He is accompanied by wife Kelley and daughter Katie and our newest grandchild, Blake Alexander born 12/28/06. We were there for his birth in Heidelberg. George Patrick is 9 and slugging through 3rd grade...school is not his favorite past time! :) Coming up on 20 years w/ PeaceHealth in September; where does the time go?! 9/23/2007: Son Zachary will be deploying for his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq some time later this week. Not a real happy time around here. Daughter-in-law Kelley and Grandkids will remain in Mannheim which of course means a trip back to Germany to see them while Zachary is gone. He is scheduled to return in late 2008. 6/09/2008: Zach is still in Iraq. We made a trip to Germany in March of this year to visit Kelley, Katie and Blake. We hadn't seen Blake since h...Expand for more
e was 2 days old so he had changed quite a bit. The snow from Alaska followed us to Germany but we had a great time inspite of it. In a couple of weeks we'll head out to Minnesota to see the Grandkids who live with Zach's ex. We weren't able to make the trip last summer because of work commitments, so we are all anxious to see each other. Their mom has written that the kids "are packed and ready to go." 12/28/2008: Zach has safely returned to Germany after a 15 month deployment to Iraq. Couldn't ask for a much better present than that! George is 10 and burning up 4th grade. Loves playing sports on his Wii. A great game to have when there is 20 inches of snow outside...and it has ALL fallen since about 0730 this morning! All the grandkids are well; the youngest one is turning 2 today. We had our grandson Zachary Christopher here in Ketchikan with us for Thanksgiving which was an absolute blast for us. It was his first trip to Alaska and we packed as much into a week as humanly possible. Wishing all a very safe and healthy 2009! jd
