Glenn's Story
How do I hope old friends remember me? Same as it ever was...I still stay in contact with Greg Keh, Rob Smith, Rich Pult, Leslie Cape (McNeil) and Joe Cape (not bad since we're thousands of miles apart collectively). We may not see each other often, but we're never out of touch. Here's a shout out to any of them if they happen upon this drivel -- I obviously had some free time tonight!!!
For the uninitiated, I went to USC, came back to SF and worked in the city until 1996 and have lived in New York ever since -- I guess that qualifies me as being a Nooh Yawkuh.
Manhattan is the center of the universe, but San Fran is still as good a home as Kansas when one toils in Oz.
That's the nutshell, and that's all I'm offering, except for some random thoughts concerning my interests...
Still love my Giants, 49ers and Warriors, but the mighty Trojans are sports nirvana for me...I waited 23 years to gloat, but like the golden age of the 80s & 90s for the Niners, I know that will someday end.
Constant source of mindless sports debates:
* John Elway is the best QB I've ever seen, though no one ever had the field vision possessed by Joe Montana. Lawrence Taylor, no contest for defensive player.
* Regardless of what you think of him, Barry Bonds' 2001 and 2002 seasons were the most incredible displays of hitting I've ever seen...completely in the zone, first for power and then for avg. & OBP.
* Best baseball team: 1998 Yankees followed closely by the 1976 Reds.
* Best football team: 1984 49ers -- great balance with deceptive finesse blending with brute power.
"The Godfather I & II" is still the greatest movie I've ever seen..."Leave the gun, take the cannoli."

KFOG is the best radio station around and a godsend in a rather uninspired, surprisingly provincial NY market. KCSM and KBLX ain't too bad either, but there's only so many hours in the day.
Being one of the people who witnessed firsthand the wretched, grotesque and surreal destruction of the World Trade Center that Tuesday morning in 2001, I still have hope in the integrity of our political system and faith in the strength and sensibility of our society though it's been quite discouraging and a little disheartening since that ghastly nightmare allegedly shook our world. Wasn't Al Qaeda supposed to be the source of all that inhumanity? WTF?
2009 addendum: Well, we're on the right track now, but the past 20 years have fomented into serious systemic flaws domestically and internationally...with a little luck and common sense, it'll all work itself out.
As for affairs of the heart, it doesn't matter how rational or decent you try to be, if your other half is more emotionally unstable than Zelda Fitzgerald and more addictively reckless than Amy Winehouse, the relationship is doomed to failure, and mine has crashed big time. Somewhere along the way, fatuous and malicious became one and the same. However, at the end of the day, some measure of accountability belongs to me for having faith in someone that self-centered and irresponsible...a life lesson that will ultimately steel my resolve for better days.
Anyway, glad I grew up in the 70s and thankful for the grace of my friends, especially those of my Serramonte brethren. Meeting the myriad of people along this personal journey makes me realize how fortunate I was...and still am. Lightning in a bottle! Timing is everything.
Peace.
