Barbara's Story
Life:
Life has a strange way of coming full circle. I am a firm believer that what God has for "YOU" is for "YOU".
We are fortunate enough, sometimes, to be granted a second chance. The second chance could be at love, life,or at happiness. We must find a way to be wise enough to not repeat our past mistakes, while being brave enough to not permit our mistakes to hinder our future.Presents aren't promises, and kisses aren't contracts...
We must find a way to sift through the superficial and embrace that which is authentic and concrete. In the middle of all of that solid love...that is where peace, serenity, and happiness dwells.
School
My memories of BHHS are pleasant ones. I felt valued there. As an educator I now fully appreciate that much of what one needs is offered at your school. It does not matter if your school in an affluent one, or one in the "hood". Once you find where you fit in, you can grow and flourish. One of my most valued inspirations came from Mrs. Whitfield. She guided me, and helped me realize that my circumstances were not a determining factor in my success or my failure. She kept me grounded while giving me wings. I sincerely hope that I am fortunate enough to be that type of inspiration to at least one of my stud...Expand for more

College
Eastern Michigan University...hhhmmmm what do I say. Never have I a felt more alienated, frustrated, and humbled. Thankfully, my mother provided me with a firm foundation that couldn't be crumbled. I graduated with a dual BS in Special Education/Education. At the end of the day, education is what it is about!
Workplace
Everyone should be able to say that they LOVE their job. Well, I can truly say that I love mine. I presently teach 5th grade Reading and Language Arts. There are "better" "richer" schools that I could have elected to affiliate myself with. I selected "my school" because I feel it affords me the opportunity to "give back". My hope is that in some small way it says "thank you" to those who went the extra mile for me.
Military
I have no real military experience. I did however, work for 3 years at the Navy Recruiting Office (during High School) in what use to be the "Fairplain Plaza".
MMMMmmm baby, what enriching days those were. I "grew up" at the Navy Recruiting office. I think I simply grew tired of blushing and being chaste. The "recruiters" were old "Sea Dogs" whose language matched their experience. I could tell you all that they taught me, but then, as the saying goes, "I would have to kill you!"
