Stephen's Story
Life
After Scarborough I attended the University of Miami and graduated from there with a B.A. in English, minor in Journalism.
I worked for Capitol Records from 1969-83 (got to work with John Lennon!), and then went to Universal Studios MCA Records as Sr. VP of Promotion. I left MCA Records in 1992 and founded my own consulting company, SMART MARKETING.
Since that time I've consulted media, entertainment and hi-tech companies, lectured on pop music and pop culture at the University of Miami, UCLA, USC, CCSN (Community College of Southern Nevada), and I've been a featured speaker at industry events.
In 2003 I launched an e-mail newsletter, DISC&DAT, for music industry professionals. It now reaches 1000 people direct and is featured on the leading music industry website All Access in the 'Digital Technology' section, where I'm ...Expand for more
an editor. In 2005 I had three separate articles published in RADIO INK magazine as well.
As a respected authority on pop-culture and the entertainment industry, I was interviewed by Martin A. Grove, now a columnist for The Hollywood Reporter and a CNN Entertainment reporter, for three separate books on pop music and culture.
My wife and I relocated to Las Vegas in 1996 from Southern California. My son Justin lives in L.A. and was the tour drummer for "The Calling" the past two years. He traveled around the world and did a bunch of TV shows with the band.
School
My biggest crush? My high-school girlfriend who did not attend Scarborough, Meg Turnesa.
Without a doubt Edgar Stillman, our high school English teacher inspired me the most. Because of him I went on to become an English major with all electives in Creative Writing.
