Shirley's Story
College
After high school graduation I attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and received an Associate of Arts for Elementary Education because I wanted to be an Elementary teacher. I then changed my mind after some life changing events occurred in my life. I sat out of college 2 and a half years and then returned, attending Southeastern University in Durant majoring in Psychology and minoring in Criminal Justice. I then decided I did not want to major in Psychology and I transferred after a year and a half at Durant to East Central University in Ada, Ok. and majored in Social Work. I met the love of my life got married to a wonderful man & graduated in May 2001 with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work "BSW" and a minor in Criminal Justice. I have since started back to college attending the graduate program for the School of Social Work at the OU/Tulsa campus and will hopefully graduate in May 2007!!
Workplace

chools ranging from ages 5-18. It was a great job with both wonderful and challenging experiences! I really enjoyed it but really did not care for being "on call", because that meant being called out at any time of the night and driving to the ER and doing an evaluation on a person who might be suicidal or homicidal and deciding if they needed in-patient hospitalization. I then decided to switch jobs after three years of employment and take a job as Director of Quality Assurance for a home health auditing charts and keeping them up to code in case of an State Audit.
After obtaining my Masters I was promoted to Case Mgr. and had a lot more responsibilities.....since then I have moved to Roland, Ok. about 11 mos. ago due to my husband being promoted to take over his own location in Van Buren, Ar. I am currently working for Mercy hospice as a Medical Social Worker and truly enjoy it. I am also studying to obtain my Licensure for the state of Arkansas and Oklahoma.....wish me luck! :-)
