Jonathan's Story

Life Living in Camillus, a western suburb of Syracuse with my wife Jen, 18-month old son Alex, and our yellow Labrador retriever Molly. Working in Skaneateles, NY, as a graphic designer. Life is good. Lots of great friends here and we visit our families back in East Aurora and Niagara Falls every couple months. Hard to be away from family, but we're still close enough to visit; just 2.5 hours down the Thruway. We enjoy outdoor activities, biking, hiking, golf, camping and skiing. We try to get up to the Adirondacks a couple times a year. Every time we go back to EA, it sure looks different! What the hell happened to Tops by the circle? And Bach's--where's Bach's? At least Pasquale's is still there. School High school was um, great, yeah... I'm glad it is over though. Those were a tough four years. Great memories include Mike Hammond's legendary party while his family was out of town, doing a lawn-job in McNamara's grandma's car across the back lawn of the high school, tailgating at the Dead show at Rich, then being let in for the 2nd half while totally being obliterated by iced tea and vodka, Schooner beer (my very first beer), basketball games and sledding at Emery park ski hill, morning rides to school in Clay's delapidated van listening to Iron Mike Benson, lunchtime drumming to "The Ocean" by Led Zeppelin, playing hacky-sack (which evolved into "Johnny Hack" later), witnessing Linger drink a dixie cup full of loogie-filled scrock just to win enough spare change to buy another crappy school lunch, Larry's V-12 Datsun pickup truck, chanting "Missus Bojanowski, Missus Bojanowski", but most of all, the swim team. ugh hellish workouts, both before and after school, and always being known as one of the best swim teams around western NY, despite being in the "small school" category. The Blue Bombers rocked, and it was awesome to be a part of that legacy, especially as co-captain my senior year. Thanks especially to Griff, Alicia, Schaff, Clay and Rachel for helping me get through high school. College I received my B.F.A. in graphic design from SUNY Fredonia, which has an amazingly robust design program, despite being a small state school. College was incredible; best four years of my life. So many good memories, and great friends. Went all 4 years with Petey as my housemate, and later Griff too. We partied hard with Schaffer. Later we were joined by Cerny and McLauglan and tore it up down there. Good times, good times. I really miss college! But, met my wife there, which was great. I highly recommend Fredonia to everyone! Workplace I've been working at Chase Design in Skaneateles for over 10 years now. (Skaneateles is one of the eastern finger lakes). We're somewhat of a paradox; a large design firm located in a small central NY town, seems like we'd be more at home in a big city such as New York or Boston. We do product design, corporate identity, packaging, merchandising and retail design. I focus mostly on packaging, merchandising and identity work myself. I get to work with a ton of great people here, including a few former designers hailing from my alma mater, SUNY Fredonia. Kerry Monfalcone (now Coyne), Andy Schweitzer, Chris Andrews and Julie Sparace (now Zajac). We go back to SUNY Fredonia every spring to do some recruiting.
