Hi! We live in Interior Alaska after being in Anchorage for 18 years and moved from Washington D.C. The reason I love it here so much is that it reminds me of Colorado with more panoramic beauty. We have 20 acres in the hills overlooking the Tanana River Valley and the Alaska Range in a small community called Salcha. It's located 30 miles south of North Pole or 50 miles south of Fairbanks. I have my own airplane and fly as much as possible. I have been flying since 1977, but it is a "normal" thing in Alaska. The temperature can get to -60 here, but not often; mostly only about -40 or so and that is not much different. The short summers make up for the long winters. But the challenges of winter are amazing and keep you in good shape. After 30 years with the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller, I retired in 2006.
