Holly's Story
Life
Married 30 years but now working towards a divorce, long story. 2 daughters, one in college, one home with chronic illness. I love gardening, travel, walking, cooking, painting. I have lived in Portland (my favorite) LA (sucks) NJ(great history)Japan(loved it)Scottsdale (nice place to visit) Calgary (feels like home) Favorite place to travel, Asia, favorite food, anything spicy. I am working now in special education...and love my job! New now..I am dating a wonderful man. Retired High School History teacher/vice principal/guidance counselor/football coach (not really retired from coaching). He lives in Eugene while I am here in Portland, and this long distance relationship is not working for me. I plan to move to Eugene so that we can be together. Not sure what that will mean work wise, but it is where I want to be. Love to stay in touch with people, e-mail me!
School
Favorite teacher..Mr. Voight, Favorite subject, Photography When we graduated I thought I was done with school, Life became my educator. Became an Exchange Student to Japan. Returned to college in my 30's and found I loved college. Studied Respiratory Therapy. Favorite college subject Microbiology. I ended up working in a school, special education. I probably should have been a teacher after all. At McNary..hated walking the halls at lunch having the guys oogling but that is where friends...Expand for more
were. Liked hanging out in the art room, dark room, back stage. Wished I had taken harder classes. Wished that someone had advised me to go to college.
College
I am not 100% sure of the dates, I spent a year at PCC doing pre req. work..then moved to Mt. Hood CC to study Resp. Therapy. Loved school, not thrilled with the hours I would need to keep to work in the field, so cut my losses and went back to being full time home maker/volunteer. This last summer returned to school..2 classes.."Teaching the learning disabled student" and "Intro to education" which completed my requirement to work as a special education instructional assistant. I love my job!
Workplace
First job worked as a Barber in Corvallis Oregon...fun but not real rewarding, no matter how great a hair cut you gave, the person was back in 6 weeks needing another. Second job Retail, liked the discount, could be creative (design window displays) fed the analytical part of me because I was a buyer. Still didn't feed my heart. Studied to be a Respriatory Therapist, but never practiced, hours awful but closest to my heart work. Finally found Special Education. Worked with physically frail kids, Mentally retarded, emotionally disturbed etc. This was my heart work. Love kids, love education, good people. I am doing this now for the Beaverton School district...probably the best fit of any job I can imagine.
