Carl's Story
Life
I am currently living in Windsor, Ontario. I have been married for almost 15 years. I have 2 boys, and am self employed. I moved to Windsor for employment reasons in 1995. I opened my own business in 1998. I have 2 dogs (Rotti/Shepards), who are just big sucks! I would love to connect with people from my year. I don't really think that I was a nerd in school - just quite.
School
In High School, I kind of kept to myself. I had my own little circle of friends, and surprisingly, never got picked on! I made it through the 4 years with all my credits (although some were pretty tense). I was always required to write the stupid final exam! I often wonder where people ended up, and I wish that there would be a reunion someday. I went to Lambton College 3 different times. I think that you have to WANT to go to school to succeed.
College
When I graduated High School, I started College (Lambton). I don't think I was really ready for College at that time. I tried to make it, but dropped out after 1.5 years. I tried again for a different ...Expand for more
course a few years later, and graduated. Then, situations dictated that I go back again in 1994/1995. I then graduated from that course, and that's that!
Workplace
I have had lots of "nowhere" jobs until I started doing what I am doing now. I went to school while I was laid-off from a factory job to learn how to repair major appliances. I always wanted to start my own business, but never had a trade to do it with. I overcame the stigma of being the "fat appliance guy", and have been self-employed since 1998. I started doing this in 1995, but the company I was working for went out of business, so I had a tough choice to make. The money is not guaranteed, but the freedom is worth it.
Military
I never went into the military, but often wish I had. Imagine being able to have a secure job and see the world, while at the same time getting paid (and earning a pension)! Of course, if I lived in the States, I probably would have gone for sure - imagine floating around on a nuclear aircraft carrier (instead of a stupid frigate like we have???).
