Teresa's Story

Life My Spouse He was a friend of a guy that my best friend worked with. She introduced us. Vic went by the nickname of "Skullman". I am sad to share with you that Vic passed away June 3rd, 2007. He had been ill for sometime, but we he wasn't supposed to die. It's been rough! I miss him! He was my best friend! My Kids Jenny is 28, lives with her grandparents in Deerfield. She has mild cerebral palsy, and mental retardation. She graduated from DHS, Class of 2000. She was the 1999 Fall Sports Homecoming Queen. She has attended Garden City Community College. Jenny was Ms.Kansas International 2003. She works at Community Day Care in Garden City James is 26 and a 2001 graduate of DHS. He graduated from Fort Hays State University Health/Human Preformance major in May of 07. He married Caylan Cornett of Hays on June 23, 2007. They live and work in Hays. He is the education and training coordinator at a big agency in Hays that serves those with develomental disabilities. Cody is 23 and attended FHSU. He is taking some time off from school to figure out what he wants to do with his life. He has won a total of $700 in Halloween contests as Napolian Dynamite the past 3 years. He lives & works in Hays. Cody's daughter was born August of 08. She is so wonderful! Cody works as a direct service provider. Adam is 22 and has a major mental illness which has waylaid his life big time. When he was healthy he was into Sports big time. He played football, wrestled, ran track, and did power lifting. He has set all kinds of track records and scored 5 touchdowns and 353 yds rushing in one game. He is the State champ in the 1A 110 Hurdles,100 meter dash, 300 m. ...Expand for more
hurdles, and the 200 meter dash in 2003, and the State runnerup 170 lb. Powerlifer. He placed 7th at the National Jr. Olympics in Miami in the 100 meters, and his 4x100 relay place 4th. He was one awesome athlete. He is currently hospitalized. He also has two sons, my grandsons, Josiah age 6 and Jeremy age 3. Tori is the youngest at age 17. She is in the 12th grade. Like her older brothers, she also enjoys sports, but due to 2 knee injuries is unable to participate at this time. Tori is a CNA at the local nursing home in Lakin and plans on a medical career of some sort once she graduates from DHS. My Job I teach parents how to advocate for their child who has a disability. I also hook them up with others in the same situation. I also help them find whatever resources are necessary. I really work on letting them know, that they are not alone! I recently became our agency representative for Infant/Toddlers/Early Childhood in the state of Kansas. I attended Garden City Community College for two years, where I made the President's Honor roll one semester. Never made any honor roll in high school so am very proud of that. I am currently in the Fort Hays State University cohort program at GCCC working on my bachelors in social work. I have about a year remaining before I earn my bachelors and am considering going to KU and earning my masters. I love college and wish I had went back a long time ago. I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and recently some of my old classmates. College I am currently a student at Fort Hays State University on the campus of Garden City Community College and on-line at FHSU working on my Bachelors in Social Work.

Since I had pneumonia in early April, I haven't been up to doing much walking, which is my favorite way to exercise. However, I started trying to take more steps every day to get back to where I was before. As of yesterday,
