Diane's Story

Life August, 2007 As we approach Marina High School's 40th Reunion, I suppose our list of bios could be a place to say, look how well I have done! If I do not want to be part of that club, I could tell all, or, not offer any personal information. So, I will tread in the middle. What can I say after that introduction? My own bio, if I were thorough, would read like a roller-coaster ride replete with triumph and tragedy, success and failure, wins and losses. In that respect, my story is similar to anyone else our age, especially those of us who were affected by the turbulent 60s and 70s. After we graduated from Marina High School, Bob and I married and settled into suburban Huntington Beach to raise a family. We brought two hefty sons into the world and purchased a house, which we refurbished. I started an organic garden, made jams and jellies, and worked for House of Fabrics and Standard Brands Paints. Bob worked for Lucky Stores and went to Orange Coast College to become a computer whiz. The times, though, they were a-changing, and so were we. We took different roads and explored different territories. This is where I segue across time to avoid unpleasant details. Bob and I divorced, moved to different parts of California, and we are now both remarried. Our two sons have produced five grandchildren. One constant thread in my life has be...Expand for more
en my love for creative endeavors and the performing arts. When I was more active, I was involved in various community theatre productions. I also trained for a short time with a group called Mimeistry. I sang with a now-defunct a cappella group. In 1993 we sang locally and in Eastern Europe. We performed in various venues both in Russia and the Czech Republic. It was a life-changing experience that opened my eyes to a bigger world. I am grateful for the training I received from Terry Danne, our high school choir director. I am also grateful for the blessings that come from knowing my Lord and Savior. In my 30s I reconnected with the love of my youth, Jesus Christ, who led me, in my 40s, to the love of my waning years, Gary. We have been married 13 years. I am currently a freelance writer, and I love to do research, especially genealogy. My hubby, Gary, works for Social Services and is very musical. We host International students, up to four at a time. We have a cat named Velkro who sticks by us as his name suggests. We are both very active with our church and I tend our organic garden. True to my roots, I make jams, knit and crochet, sing my heart out, and have begun to sew quilts. Update 2009 - Gary took early retirement from the county, we retired from hosting International students, and We moved to California's Central Valley.
