Lillian's Story
I turned 15 years old in 1975 when my dad uprooted us from Puerto Rico and took us to Erie, Pa. Needless to say, I hardly spoke English. Luckily, I had a great teacher at Academy High School who took us (me and my brother Raul) under her wing. She assigned an older student to help us with English grammar and vocabulary. This really made a difference!

In 1977 we went back to Puerto Rico where I finished high school and did my undergraduate studies. In 1984 I went to SUNY Buffalo for an MBA. Today I am the Human Resources Director for a pharmaceutical company on the island.
