John's Story
Life
I served in the U.S. Army from 1989-1992. I have been working for Border Patrol/INS/Homeland Security since 1997. I started out as a Border Patrol Agent with the U.S. Border Patrol in Casa Grande, Arizona. I patrolled the US/Mexico border and apprehended illegal aliens and drugs. I also worked on an Anti-Smuggling team while in Casa Grande. I later transferred to Alaska and worked as an Immigration Inspector at Port Alcan on the Alaska Highway from June 2002 until December 2003, I then transferred to Trenton, Michigan as a Senior Patrol Agent with the Border Patrol. I later transferred to Brackettville, Texas in September 2007 for a change of pace in my career. I left Texas in July 2008 and I am now living in New Mexico where I am a Supervisor. I married my wife Gabriela in August of 2000 in Mexico. We had our first baby, Megan, in January 2001 and second baby, Karen, in August 2003.

tary. In hind sight, I wish that I would have been a MP or went into the Air Force. I would have liked to have been stationed in England or Australia. Fort Carson, Colorado was the best of my duty stations. It was one of the greatest years of my life. I learned alot about myself on Johnston Island... Being far removed from everything about life that I was accustomed to and enjoyed greatly, It was a year for me to contemplate on what direction I wanted to go in my life afterwards. I made alot of friends that I will never forget on J.I. Hunter AAF, Georgia sucked. It was good to be closer to home, but I never did feel the same comaraderie that I did at Fort Carson or J.I. The highlight of being stationed at Hunter was going to the U.K. on a 17 day training TDY with the 1st Ranger Battallion. That was the way that I pictured the Army before I enlisted. Working with the Rangers was a great experience... one that I will never forget.
