Yvette's Story
Life
Greetings Gladstone High Class of 1967!!!! I know, I know. I've been a pretty poor class president but I hope I can fix that this year. Plans are underway for our 40th class anniversary -- otherwise known as REUNION TIME!!!! Contact me if you are interested in participating in the reunion we all deserve.
Let me bring you up to date. After graduating I left for Howard University in Washington, DC. I recieved an undergraduate degree in sociology and a master's degree in urban planning. I spent a year in law school at Pitt but didn't continue. I was employed at the Dept. of Housing & Urban Devel. in DC for 32.5 years and retired in March 2007.
I married a gentleman from Senegal in W. Africa and we have a son named Cheickh (pronounced Shake). He appeared for awhile on a TV show on BET, Teen Summit. He is an on again/off again student at Howard majoring in communications.
I recently served as president of the Auxiliary at Howard U. Hospital and secretary of the employees union at HUD. I have served as Howard Alumni Club president in the past. My primary intersts are theater and desktop publishing. My mom still lives in Glen Hazel so I visit fairly often.

y retired, I ended my professional career with several high points. First I planned and oversaw a conference recognizing the 30th year of the community development program that I work with at HUD -- the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. Most cities have received some type of funding from this program.
From October through December (2004), I worked in Florida as part of a disaster recovery team. I worked in Vero Beach, Sebring and Orlando, Florida, helping to find temporary housing for people whose homes had become uninhabitable because of the hurricanes. The current publicity hasn't been good about the overall relief effort but I know that the teams I worked with accomplished near miracles with limited resources. I enjoyed Florida so much that I plan to be a snowbird and live there from December through March every year. I enjoyed the disaster recovery work so much that I delayed retiring and worked with the Katrina recovery effort. Sadly, the federal agencies still have much to accomplish with that recovery.
Will members of the Class of 1967 please, please come together for our reunion? Hopefully, I'll see most of you at the reunion in Pittsburgh on September 8, 2007!
