Danielle's Story
Life
After high school, I attended Oregon College of Education (now WOU), where I earned a BS in Elementary Education. I moved to Southern California in 1984. I got married in 1985 and divorced in 1996. I taught 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grades for 5 years and then began teaching P.E. in an elementary school. I earned my Masters Degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University in 1992. I have two sons. K.C. (Kenton Cole) is 31 and Spencer is 29. I would always return to Sweet Home every summer and throughout the school year. Steve Hanscam and I were married in August of 2009. We spent over 6 years living apart and traveling back and forth. In June of 2015, I retired from teaching and moved back to Sweet Home permanently. I miss my two boys like crazy and don't get to see them as often as I wish I could. It has been great for Steve and I to finally be able to live together on a full-time basis. He retired in the summer of 2019.. It's also been nice to be close to my brothers and their families. Dad passed away on February 26, 2013 and Mom passed away January 11, 2018. Shockingly and sadly, my oldest brother, John, passed away May 6, 2019. I miss them all so very much!! ...Expand for more
Life is short--live it to the fullest!!
School
I don't think I'd change a whole lot about my high school experiences. I loved going to school and I had a lot of friends. We had fun just hanging out in the halls, going to football and basketball games, and dances. I still keep in touch with a few people like Joan Strubhar and Libby Baier and of course, my sister-in-law, Suzanne Hanscam Aschinger.
I loved sports. I participated in cross country, swimming, and track earning my varsity letter in all three sports all four years of high school. I was a cheerleader for football season during my junior and senior years..
A favorite teacher? Do I have to pick just one? Mr. and Mrs. Arndt, Mrs. Barrett, Mr. Miner, Mr. Costa, Mr. Rue, Mrs Sawyer, Mrs. Hopkins, Mr. Carlson......I can't think of any that I didn't like.
I think one of my most memorable experiences was being chosen prom queen. It meant a lot because it was something that was voted on by my peers, not the faculty or anyone else, but by the kids I went to school with. That really meant a lot to me!!!!!!!!!
I don't remember any particular incidences---I just remember laughing a lot. That's a good thing! :-)
