James's Story
I was born & raised in North Platte, Nebraska, and went to kindergarten at CODY elementary. We lived on West Second St, between Sherman and Sheridan.
I attended NPSP and NPHS. My last semester, senior year, we moved-temporarily-to Overland MO, where I graduated from Ritenour HS.
I graduated from Kearney StateCollege (NE), in '73 w/Regular Army 2LT Commission and BA in History.
I completed paratrooper/Ranger training and was initially a rifle/mortar Platoon Leader in the 101st Airborne Division. Married in '74-divorced in '79. I made Captain in Germany in '77, but left the Army there in '79.
I remained in Germany as a civilian DoD employee, mostly in Army Education centers, until 1990. I married a PE teacher, Jean Casbeer, from NY in 1981. That was the smartest thing I ever did. I Traveled in Europe extensively, but especially enjoyed Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and...Austrian Alps at Christmas.
At Fort Drum NY (near Watertown), I was an Education Specialist 1990-98 and Museum Curator '98-2006.
Having earned Masters degrees from USC (Education Administration & International Relations) & Syracuse (Information Management- aka Library Science). I was a part-time college adjunct instructor (Hist/Poli Sci) 1991...Expand for more
-2006. I 'retired' in 2006, moved to Hagerstown MD, and worked for a non-profit historical society until 2009. My wife has retired as well.All three of my kids are college graduates, and gainfully employed.
I enjoy the relative proximity to D.C. and Baltimore. Have become a Nationals and Capitals fan. I enjoy watching minor league baseball teams, in Harrisburg PA, York, PA, and Altoona PA.we live in a very historic area, and there are roughly 25 vineyards within an hour drive of where we now live. Lots of live music concerts too, especially May-October.
In 2011, Jean and I moved to Chambersburg PA, just 25 mi north of Hagerstown MD. I now have granddaughter, Nina, in Brooklyn NY, where my son and oldest daughter live. My youngest daughter Lives on St Thomas, American Virgin Islands. B. Ienjoy fooling around on the piano, and playing at playing the guitar. I do a lot of walking, and volksmarching. I'm a regular at Planet Fitness.
I played 2 seasons of church-league slow-pitch softball (2015-16). I’m sure I was the oldest player in the league. I try to read a book a week and pay attention to local, national and world events. Hope to get more travelling done, especially a trip back to Europe.
I've been fortunate in my life.
