Richard's Story

Hi I work at Seekonk Precision Tools a torque wrench company in Seekonk ma.They have a nice Web page check it out. They have been in business for over seventy five years and I have been working there for thirty of them as the plant foreman. My day is very busy and goes by fast. .I am a tool and cutter grinder also.thats how I got into this company. I started a grinding department for them .I have forty two years of experance with that trade. I have been married 43 years and have two children with four grand kids My mother died this year .I went to get her some medicine for her and when I got back my father had her resting on the floor with an aneurism to her brain.. She went fast and painlessly . My father and her were married 67 years. My father is eighty eight years old and finally retired this last year.I always asked him when he was going to retire and his answer was not till I get old !!!!! He was the foreman of valley throwing co. He had been there over fifty years. I like riding my motorcycle to work everyday .I have been riding motorcycles since I was sixteen. I am driving a 1987 1200 goldwing.right now. I love the cd player on it an love playing my faverate music when I ride. I like going to the gym . I am into spinning classes right now .I go a couple times a week and I feel great after . I have a cat named Rusty and we are best of friends. He loves smellin my vitamins every day. He loves the different smells and he gets excited the more he smells .I get the cap off and his head is there ready to sample each one. The one vitamin he does not like is vitamin C. I like going to work because the company I work for is so awesome. The day to day activity changes every minute.I have had people geting hurt to two employees not getting along with each other. You never know what the day brings its always a surprize. It's funny how you can never keep everyone happy . Some days someone is cold or the next they are too hot and want the air conditioner on.Its not that they are bad people because they are all nice people but you can never please everyone no mater what you do.The main thing I try to do is see their problem and be fair to everyone .Once I had to pull a finger out of a machine and send it to the hospital where they reattached it . The product we sell torque wrenches have improved so much because we spent millions on new machines to have better tolerances. We were able to keep the work force the same and produce more then twice as much product.I am always on the hunt to find a product we buy at a better value. I might have to buy a larger amount to get the discount but the lower price is worth it as long as you buy only as much as you need. You would not want to fill inventory that would take ten years to use on everything. ...Expand for more
The product changes all the time and what you think is a sure thing you will use may be scrap next year if changes are made on one of the tools. You can't be taught all the things you need to know experance is everything. I must change the plan from day to day .Last weeks plan do not apply this week. People are our main concern happy workers make good workers .Remember you can not make them all happy but the effect must be to make most happy. We have wonderful people there and I have had times they stood by me and helped me when I was in need. One time I got the fork truck stuck in the snow outside and before I knew it I had an army of men saying Mr Houles stuck PUSHHHHHHH . The first thing I do In the spring is get my motorcycle up and running. I have a few places I like to ride to.One is Slater Park in Pawtucket because it's near my house and another is Colt state park in Bristol I want to tell you a big change happened when I went from 4th grade to 5th. . The fifth grade mixed a lot of kids from different area's . It was over a mile from my house and I had to ride my bike everyday. I met a lot of nice kids there. I had a fight one day with Jeff Sine over something I can't even remember now. All I know was I got the worst bloody nose and he got the worst black eye. You know we both became friends after that. I liked a girl named Margaret and sent her a whole box of valentines and you know what she still didn't like me ha! Well later that year I met another girl named Nancy and me and her got along and one day we went off to this hilly spot near Roger Williams Ave and I got my first Kiss ever . It was just a quick little kiss but it was like the first walk on the moon. We were both so young and that kiss was the only thing on our minds nothing more. I was way over my head with her. She was way more mature then I was and I knew it in just one kiss. It steered up lots of feelings that I new nothing about. It was a good memory and I wish I had been just a lot more mature for her and me.It still remains one of the highlights of my life even though it lasted only a moment in time. I saved a letter my friend Nancy sent me 49 years ago . I had my tonsils out and each student sent me a letter to let me know how things were going in school . Nancy told me all the important stuff going on during my time out. If life could only be so simple now as it was then..She found an injured bird ,someone took in a frog and turtle ,and games we played in the school yard were important stuff I needed to know about. I remembered reading this letter 49 years ago and it means as much to me today as it did then. Its amazing it has lasted so many years in such good condition.I wish I could go back in time and injoy that grade again. Look in photos for copy.
