Darrin's Story

Taking this from my website. :) Best to start at the beginning here, I was born in Baltimore and raised on the east coast, north of Boston, in the fairly small town of Newburyport. I moved to Byfield for my last couple years of school. After graduation I went into the Air Force, where I spent 4 years as an X-Ray Technician. I would have to say that I enjoyed my time in the service, but that it just wasnt for me. I decided that when my time was up, I would return to school, and continue with my studies in the medical field; I had hopes of becoming a doctor. When I left the Air Force, I moved out to Moscow, Idaho, where my dad was teaching at the University there. The reason that I decided to move across the coast was primarily monetary. sSchools were way less expensive compared to east coast colleges. During this time here I ended being involved in a major motorcycle accident in which I came close to dying. At that point, I made a career change, and decided to return to my first love, computers. The next few years was spent finishing my degree in Computer Science, and I was quite happy when that was finished. The year before graduation I ended up getting married and started to settle down a bit... ease up on my partying ways. We moved to Seattle where the job propects were quite good in the field, and found a decent place to live. I started working at AT&T as a web developer, but more about that in the link to the left. A couple years later, my wife and I split up due to basic differences in personality. I threw myself into my work at that point, and didnt have too much time for anything else. Then something wonderful happened, I met a very wonderful girl who eventfully became my wife. The way my wife, Heidi, and I met always seems to amaze a lot of people, just because it was so sudden and that we fit so very well together. It was a chance internet meeting that blossomed quickly and as a result, made us very happy people. We met by chance while I was separated from my previous wife, I had gotten online to try and meet someone in the area just to go out and have drinks or go to the movies with. I was going stir crazy in the house. I had gone to Matchmaker and searched for people in the area, one person caught my eye and I sent her an email. Well, Heidi had been computerless for the past couple of years and had just gotten it up and running a couple days prior. She had been to an online dating site in the past, and had just posted something up there on a lark. Then the next day, she got my email. We corresponded for a bit via email, and IM, and it turned out that we had a whole very lot in common. First thing that turned out to be quite interesting, was the fact that we li...Expand for more
ved in the same apartment complex; she lived about a 3 minute walk from me. We also had a lot in common in the way of music, and books and just about everything, actually. We both worked in the computer field, I was a programmer, while she worked in QA. One night, she put her daughter on IM to talk to me, and she found out that I had an extensive collection of video games, and basically invited herself and Heidi up to visit. That night, we all played games and watched tv, and realized that we had even more in common in person. We ended the night fairly early, but all decided to spend the next day in Seattle together. After that night, we were pretty much inseparable, and realized that we had something special together. We often (and still do) complete each others thoughts, and usually when one of us is thinking of something, the other comes out and says the same thought. It's pretty freaky at times. It also turned out that even though we had moved to the apt complex during different years, it was during the same month; so our leases were up at the same time. About 8 months later, we had started thinking of marriage; the thought was still scary to me, considering what had happened in the past, but I knew that this was the woman that I wanted to spend my life with. We planned on moving into a house together when our leases were up that May, and having a wedding at some point in the summer. We were planning to have an Elvis wedding in Vegas, not because we are big Elvis fans, but because the thought was so cheesy that we had to do it! But we decided that we couldn't wait, and on May 17th, 2000, we were married in the local park with just a few friends in attendance. Two weeks later, we moved into our house as husband and wife. We have the best life here, and I love her and our daughter, Madison, very very much. They are the shining points of my life, and I have learned so much from both of them. Heidi has opened me up to new things since I have met her, and we always have fun.... I do know that if it wasnt for her, I sure would NEVER had gotten my belly pierced! :) I know that we have many more years ahead of us, and we both know that they will be as happy and as love filled as the previous ones have been. I will stick some pictures of us up here shortly as I get them. In 2003 we spent some time house hunting, and decided that the neighborhood that we were renting in was the place we wanted to stay. Just so happened that a house was for sale right down the road, so in May of 2003 we bought it and moved in. It is a great area, with lots of trees, and lake washington right across the street. Only a block away from the park, and still pretty close to everywhere we would like to go.
