Samuel's Story
I, Samuel T. Walker, graduated from J. E. Johnson High School in Prentiss, Mississippi in 1964. I served four years (1964-1968) in the U. S. Air Force was a member of the Vietnam Peace Eagles, and received a honorable discharge at the rank of sergeant. After my military service I returned to Mississippi in 1968 and attended Jackson State College where I received my Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry and Mathematics in 1972.
In June 1972, I was hired as a GS-5 chemist with Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) in Brooklyn, New York. I received extensive training in foods, drugs, pesticides cosmetics and heavy metal analysis. I were eventually transferred to the drug branch where I developed my expertise and performed research in the area of complex drug analysis and was promoted to a GS-12 Drug Specialist. ted New Drug Application (ANDA) method validations and verifications. I was one of the first chemist in the Region to participate in team inspections. I was active in both domestic and international inspection cadres for many years. My research projects lead to several articles being published in the national and international journals, such as Journal Assoc. of Analytical Chemistry (JAOAC), Laboratory Information Bulletin (LIB), and National Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBOChe). I served on the EEO committee as the Black Employee Program Manager (BEP).
I retired January 3, 2006 with more than 37 years of government services (33.5 years with the Food & Drug Administration). I was married to Ella for 23 years. She passed in November 2009. I have five children ages 20, 23, 28, 31, and 37 years. Four boys and one girl and two grandchildren ,2 and 11 years old, both girl. I am current staying in Mount Vernon, New York.
