William's Story

Life Yo, Class of '87. When I left HS, I continued to work at the Grand Hotel until the Fall. I went to the University of Montevallo for 3 semesters; I was not making the grade, so I came home to Montrose and worked at Jubilee Landscape for the next 2-1/2 yrs. When I turned 21, I joined the USAF and left for Basic Training in Sept 1990. Basic was in San Antonio, TX. After 6 weeks of basic, I shipped out for Tech School at Sheppard AFB, Witchita Falls, TX. I spent the next 4 months learning my new career field in A/C and Refrigeration. My first duty assignment was in Merced (MerDead) Cali where I spend the next 3-1/2 yrs of my life learning my job and the ways of the AF. I was at Castle AFB from 1991-1994. During this time, I deployed to Saudi Arabia, twice; I went to Japan for 30 days. In 1994, I volunteered to go to Korea for a year and returned to Maxwell AFB, Montgomery, AL in 1995. I spent the next 7 years at Maxwell. I bought a house in Prattville, AL. All the while remaining single. I started dating a girl that lived in Atlanta. We dated long distance for quite a while and I was transferred to Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS in Nov 2002. Shortly thereafter, I proposed to her on Christmas night, 2002. As it seemed, this was the girl of my dreams. We were married on 23 Aug 2003. Life progressed. Soon after, I retrained into the Communications-Computer Operator career field where I learned the techncal aspects of being a Network Administrator with the AF. After graduating from COMM tech school in June 2004, I started my new career at the 81st Communications Squadron as NCOIC, Defense Me...Expand for more
ssage Systems & Exchange E-mail team for 6 mos. For the next year, I became the NCOIC of the Network Control Center Helpdesk where I was in charge of a 25 person troubleshooting team that handled all fascets of computer problems on the base network. In Nov 2005, I went to the NCO Academy Leadership/Management Training School. Upon my return to Keesler, I was put in the position of NCOIC, Information Technology Management where I am currently the Base Software License Manager and Equipment Control Officer for Keesler AFB. My Team manages over 32,000 IT assets worth over $65 million. I love my new job and renewed AF career in COMM. Stepping back a bit ... In May 2005, we found out we were pregnant with our son, Nathan. In July 2005, the girl of my dreams turned out to be the Girl of my Nightmares! We were divorcing for 2-1/2 years and made it final Mar 2008 (Update). But my son, as you see in the pictures on my profile, is the absolute light of my life. His is the sole reason I am doing what I do today. I have had to fight hard to get past the defensiveness of the "Nightmare." On 10 Jan 2006, She kept me from being at his birth with certain desceptive tactics and denied my access to him for the first 8 mos of his life. Finally, by court order, on 2 Sep 2006, I was finally able to meet and hold my son; like any real father would. So, there is probably more that I forgot to say, but the bottom line remains.... My son is the joy I live for and the sole reason for me being able to keep my sanity through all of this garbage. Take care, Drop me a line! Look me up on the "Space" that is "My."
