Laura's Story
Life
I live in Barkhamsted with my husband Tom, the youngest of my children and the youngest of his. I have four children, ranging in age from 16 to 23. My oldest is David (23) who is a US Marine. Ashley (21) is out on her own as is Val (19). Steven (16) is still at home and in school. I also have 5 step-children, ranging in age from 34 to 17, and 5 beautiful grandchildren (that I proudly claim as mine, even though technically they're not biologically mine).
We enjoy camping and the outdoors. We bought a big colonial on 4 acres surrounded on two sides by the state forest. You can literally walk out our back yard, and in about 5 minutes, be at the footbridge at the top of the Henry Buck Trail. One of our first projects was a firepit in the backyard where we have enjoyed several campfires. We routinely see bears, coyotes, deer, and have a neighbor who has seen bobcats and INSISTS he's seen a mountain lion. I believe it.

front and put my feet up on the pegs. That was it. I took the motorcycle course, passed my test, and bought my first bike (Suzuki Intruder 700). Didn't take long before it wasn't enough bike for me, so in the fall of '06, I bought my own Harley. It's a lot of fun and gives us something to do together that we both enjoy. If you see a Heritage Softail on the road with the license plate "OOHRAH" - that's me. :)
Workplace
I spent 11 years or so raising my children (even homeschooled for about 5 years). After my divorce in 2000, I put the kids into public school and went to work at Chubb Group of Insurance Companies in Simsbury. I worked there in Producer Management/Business Development for about 3-1/2 years. Left Chubb and went to work for Colemont Brokerage Group as the Director of Compliance, responsible for the licensing, corporate tax filings, and all aspects of regulatory compliance. I left Colemont in the fall of '06 and went to work for Beazley USA in the Regulatory & Compliance Department, where I currently handle broker management / compliance.
