George's Story
Life
Well I have had a busy time since I graduated from PBG. I kept up with my skating career I have won many of races and skated and officated 5 United States Championships. After a serious car accident I retired and got involved in Special Olympics where I started the first roller and ice skating program for Florida and have had trained 10 athletes that have skated 6 World Games and have come back to Florida with 18 medals I had the honor of going to the 1995 World Summer Games and in 1999 I was the coach for Team Florida at the World Games for Roller Skating. I was also the Coach of the Year for Florida and Palm Beach County Special Olympics. I aslo had the honor of running the 2002 Winter Olympics Torch. I got married and moved to North Dakota where I have 4 step sons with disabilities and they are in Special Olympics I have been involved for 20 years and still having a great time helping others with disabilities. adults with disabilities and enjoy my work. I found out that I have my own disabilty and it has been hard dealing with it. I was honor again to carry the 2004 Olympic Torch in St. Louis,Missiouri. This will be the first Olympic Torch to travel around the World and touch every contintent. I was the only citizen in North Dakota to have this honor and I was in the 4th of July parade with my stepsons and was honored at the 4th of July ceromonies with the Bismarck Symphony. My wife and 4 stepsons have traveled through 25 differant states to see family spread all across the country and we are trying to move to warmer weather as the cold is way to much for us here and affects all of our health. I still keep in contact with some of my classmates as I think freindship is so important in these times. And living here in North Dakota digging out of a blizzard of 10 inches of snow takes a toll on an man who lived his life mostly in Florida.
