Robert's Story

Greetings! I went to Marshall Jr. High, in Long Beach, CA, and then on to Millikan High School from 57 thru 59. After graduation I enlisted in the US Navy and went to boot camp at NTS San Diego, CA., where I was placed in Recruit Training Company 59-457. After that I went to USNTSC Glakes, Illinois. After graduation as an AF (Apprentice Fireman) I was assigned to the USS Prairie AD15 Destroyer Tender in the Aft Engine Room. From there I was transferred to the USS Taussig DD746, a Sumner Class Destroyer, which I served on for a year, or so, and then was discharged at San Diego, CA. From there I returned to my parents home in Long Beach, CA, and stayed with them until I got a job at Northrop Nortronics in Anaheim, CA. I worked there as a drafter for two years and was laid off when the "Skybolt" contract was canceled. From there I went to North American Aviation, Space and Information Division, where I worked on the Saturn V booster and the Apollo Space Craft. From there I went to TRW where I worked on the Lunar Lander. Then I went to JPL Pasadena and worked on the Surveyor Space Craft and Mariner Mars '67 Program. Next I went to several non-military/space commercial companies and then back to North American Rockwell, Anaheim, where I worked on the Space Shuttle. When that was finished I again did some commercial work and then went to Odetics, Spaceborne Division, Anaheim, where I worked as a Design Drafter Checker on many space satellite and mapper programs such as: Mars Mapper, Venus Radar Mapper, GeoSat, Galileo, SPOT and others. Then the Challenger blew up and realized that NASA hadn't learned anything from Apollo I. I stayed on the job for a few more months and left. I then went to California State University at San Bernardino where ...Expand for more
I earned a Bachelors Degree in Vocational Education. Then I passed the CBEST Test and worked as a sub-teacher. Later I worked as a sub-custodian, ran a maintenance business where I repaired apartments and property for property managers and a church, got into bee keeping and bee swarm control (I quit after being stun 100+ times-I am now allergic to bee venom), worked as an ACAD 12 drafter for a while, salesman (not very good one) and now I'm semi retired and looking for full time employment. My wife is 9 youngers, a first grade teacher working 10-12 hours a day and I am too embarrassed to stay retired at home while she has to work her pretty little behind off. We have three kids. Our daughter, Alicia, earned a Bachelors of Science at University of California at San Diego and her Masters Degree in Public Health at California State University last week (4-18-07). Her mom, my wife Sylvia, earned her Masters in Education at CalState Long Beach in 1980. My son, Jesse, earned his AS Degree in Telecommunications last year at Riverside City College where he now works as a Technical Assistant. Jonathan, our youngest, has graduated from UC Berkeley with a Bachelors Degree in Anthropology. He is planning taking a walk-about (by Jeep) around the US for 3 months and then will continue his education towards a Masters and Phd. In April of 2009 I became involved with the California Modern Whig Party as their Representative in Riverside County. I was, at the time, a Party of One. I am no longer alone and, in fact, have accepted the position of California State Chairman of the Modern Whig Party. This is an Honor for me. If you would like to learn about the Whig Party in California go to our California Modern Whig web site and look at some of the posts.
