Debbie's Story
Hello, classmates. After graduating, I went to Salem Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated in 1977. I started my nursing career at Salem Hospital, but it was short-lived. In October of '77 I married my husband, Bob Farrell, and we moved to Columbus , North Dakota, for a year. Then, we came back to MA, and I was back at Salem Hospital. In 1980, we had our daughter, Kelly. When she was three, we moved to NH, and we have been there ever since, with the exception of two years spent in southern Kansas when GE transferred Bob for a job at a plant down there. , first in hospital settings, then I spent 10 years as a school nurse...my favorite job (despite the pay!) In September of 1995, I became disabled, first from systemic lupus, and later from multiple sclerosis (MS). I continue to live with my husband of nearly 40 years in Warner, NH. Despite progression of my disease, I continue to do pretty well. As a 60th birthday gift, my daughter, Kelly, pledged to walk in the 50-mile MS Challenge Walk: Cape Cod in September of this year. That's the best birthday gift ever! I am an MS advocate, an avid knitter, and a volunteer for NH Make-A-Wish.
