Kathleen's Story
Hi, I grew up in Nicetown and went to St. Stephen's and Little Flower. I married my high school sweetheart,Skip, and we are still together. It hasn't been easy but what is? We had two boys and then a little girl. Our little girl,Melissa, got very sick (cancer) and lost her battle one week after her third birthday. The only thing that kept me going was knowing that I had two little boys who needed me. Life has been very difficult since. We had another baby,(Matt) after that, but everyday is a struggle when you lose a child. Shortly after that, our seven year old son, Eric, was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. Of course we were devastated. He is now married with two children. Our oldest son, Chris, is married and has two children also. So we have four beautiful grandchildren. They are the loves of our lives, our little angels. We live in Collegeville. My husband just lost his job after thirty five years. I work part-time in an OB/gyn office and have been there for fifteen years. We enjoy going to the beach, and spending time with our family.
Update 12/08/2010 Skip found a job shortly after I wrote this story, although, it only paid half of what...Expand for more
he was making before. I recently quit my job due to stress as a result of working for a "not so nice" office manager which turned the place into a hostile environment. I'm too old to put up with that kind of bullcrap! I prayed every night after I quit that Skip would find another job with a better salary so that I could take some time off. After a few weeks, my prayers were answered and Skip got a better job offer. I am happy being a stay at home grandmom now, and will soon be watching my new grandson who is expected in March.
Update April 2021
I now have seven grandkids, five boys and two girls. The oldest will be 21 and the youngest is 7. They are the light of my world along with my kids! Six years ago, I came down with a very rare syndrome called Guillain Barre. I was paralyzed from the neck down and on a respirator. I spent a month in the hospital and a month in a rehab facility, After I was discharged, I had three months of outpatient rehab. I had to relearn how to walk, feed and dress myself. I recovered stolen about 95%. Just have some balance issues and neuropathy in my feet. I am very lucky to be alive and am grateful for each day!
