Joyce's Story

Life Hey Everybody! Well, since Woodlawn High, I've been married, had a daughter(Mila-8"my minime"),another son(Jaybe 5 the"comedian") in addition to my son I had already while in school(Treshon-11"smart&2cute"), and I also married my babies daddy for all three(Damontre Owens, also an ex-Woodlawner- still sexy!).We've run a carpet/uph.cleaning business together in Woodlawn for 9yrs now, employing & training the community youth, we've all done some acting/modeling work and are moving to LA to continue with it. I enjoy teaching my children, planning family events & vacations, spreading the Good News of the Lords love & grace through card ministry and studying His Word. I still love to exercise, dance, shop, travel and constantly learn about the world of business & real estate investing from my husband (I'm his best friend / vice-president / accountant / personal assistant /conselor...)All the ladies know what I'm talking about. Also I TRY to keep a decently clean house, cook instead eating out, look gorgeous not homely and I want to learn how to care for plants & flowers without killing them! My best friends from HS have been Lanisha McCloud, Sumita Basu and Natasha Tyson. All of whom have beautiful families and are doing very well. I am just grateful to still be alive and to be able to have a light heart and peace of mind (most of the time,God Willing) knowing that I'm never alone and I can always call on Him for everything!!!So if anyone reads this, just know that I am in perfect hands because I call on the Lord! I hope to hear from some old school buddies because I know that you all ALSO are being blessed too!! Can't wait to see you all at the graduation, I hope to see many of your children!!! I la da kids. School My school memories are: * being grateful for the GT grading system so my C's were A's! * wearing high heels so much then, that I don't like them now! * leather covered jeans, sheer shirts & Reebok Classics! * fries & krimpets for lunch! (Oh yeah, and thanks to everyone who bought me extra milk while Treshon was gestating!) * breaking my ankle & leg while playing basketball in gym, therefore wearing a cast for NO PROM and for graduation! * buying pampers instead of clothes for fashion show! (And who says teen parents aren't responsible?!) * visiting the "white" lunch tables & the "black" lunch tables (please don't get offended, that's just the way it was) * placenta hair gel, fingerwaves, rods & french rolls! * lime green nails with matching Arachies ( sp.wrong?) * OK,I'm at a block, so ... that's the school highlights! College My college days consisted of: * failing "Upward Bound"physics at CCC after WHS graduation * drinking alchol for the first time in 1st sem.at CollegePark (my secret to no hangover, drink big glass of water beforehand , this prized ability had to halt when pregnant w/ Mila!) * charging up my meal card like crazy, not doing the math!! * First Club - The Ritz, D.C.,"I fell in love w/club dancing! * My roomate & neighbor were from NYC, they were cool, but my neighbors roomate was a grunge, cut herself during sex, kind of creepy girl. My friend found a razor in her bed, sensed that it was a set up to make her bleed & had to get outa there! * First time for caffeine pills & that super charged soda! * Had Dominque Daws in my math class! She was nice & SMALL!! * Did great in Anatomy/Physiology class at UMBC, during summer while pregnant w/ Mila(school & pregnancy is my thing!) * I had a revelation at Towson that I didn't want to be a doctor/...Expand for more
nurse/researcher anymore. Too many really smart people around me, all competing for the same jobs. I watched Tre make too much money from business and I was paying to learn to get a job that made less money. I still love health & biology, but I just incorporate it into my every day life ...as well as teach my kids.(I'm glad doctors are smarter & more disciplined than me!!!) * I learned that once you miss a chem lab one time...it gets alot more tempting to miss another one!..only if your lab partner is generous with their information though. * I've always enjoyed my weight lifting classes in h.s&college and I took a dance class & tae kwon doe. Too much fun! * Ok that's enough...why would you want to revisit those days too much?! I might remember something traumatizing or shameful!...but whatever you heard bout me..it AINT TRUE!! * PEACE OUT Workplace My work history starts after I gave birth to Treshon at 16! Shoneys- cashier/hostess/salad bar/waitress/food prep- career * That was an excellent exp.b/c when go out to eat, I can easily slip right into the restaurant workers shoes & appreciate them doing their job a whole lot more! * Then it was a Athletic wear/shoe store( I learned what it was like to be in a family owned & operated business) * I was a research assistant for the Animal Science Dept. at College Park.I learned alot, but quickly realized that I wasn't the "kill bird embryos, imput & anaylize data, animal caretaker, kinda person" I did well but was bored & couldn't see myself in a lab type setting as a career anymore. * Then I started helping Tre with the cleaning business (learned about the cleaning industry/sales/marketing/office/phone& customer service skills) * Then I rebelled & wanted to work by myself so I got a job as a car saleswoman for Chysler in O.M. My manager kept hitting on me, the experienced salesmen were customer stealers and I saw that you don't make any $ unless you are there ALL THE TIME to sell as many as you can.Lasted 2 weeks! Plus my household was in a state of chaos with me gone so much and me so tired when I got home. Wasn't worth it. I teamed back up with Tre again! * Then, as my family was doing modeling/acting work, I started doing hair shows, promotional modeling, movie&tv extra, print work. Again, I had a good time, learned alot but getting that "experience" as an amateur was turning into a job for minimal money. I made more working at our business. So we all took a break from going back&forth to DC & NYC and decided to grow the business until moving to LA.(plans sill in works) * Oh, & I also had brief sales jobs with security systems and Credit Card processing sales&services to business owners. * So...overall, no matter what, I've learned that in the end, the most important thing is to stay close with God and thank Him that my path is according to His Plan. Whatever job we do, we are meant to learn & grow from it, interact with the people and that those skills will be used or called upon at any given moment in the future. My whole life is full of unexpected turns and surprises, which reassures me that I am not the one in control here! Military The only military experiece that I have is that my father was in it, (He just recently retired..Yeah!) and I used to have my I.D., would go to the PX & commissary to shop! And I was covered for health insurance at one time.. But that all changed after I wasn't in school anymore.. I missed those on base priviledges(if sp.wrong..must be a typo Oh well.. sam's club eventually filled those commissary shoes
