Diana's Story
Life
Hi old friends. After high school, I went to Old Dominion and found a passion for geology . . . but you know what they say -- "Life is what happens while were busy making other plans," so, true to form, I ended up working in the nuclear field. I spent several years at NNSY working on nuclear ships & submarines. Later, I moved to Phoenix and worked at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Started as a technician and eventually went on to be an instructor & internal auditor. Life in the Southwest was very different from the mid-Atlantic Coast. I didn't have much of a life there, because the long hours and shift work in the nuclear field are really tough on the body & the psyche. On the other hand, I am greatful for the move, because it was a learning & growing experience.
Moving to present day . . . I have two sons. One is grown and on his own, and the other is fifteen and in high school. They make every day worth living....Expand for more
I am living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Most of the work that I do these days is volunteer work. It's nice to work for people that appreciate what you do. My husband works at Sandia National Labs and can't understand why I don't share his love for the nuclear field. Yeap, he's a geek.
I just ended three years as president of the local Parrot Head club. The club has been a lifesaver. . . A bridge between life in the Southwest & my memories of life on the coast.
I spend the rest of my free time doing genealogy research. I wish that I had known so much about my family during King George's adventure in American Studies.
As for the future. . . I am thinking of going back to school for a second career in geology. Maybe I'll get it right this time. I think that studying volcanoes on a tropical island would be the perfect job for a Parrot Head.
I would love to hear from some of you. Come and visit the Land of Enchantment!
