Darlene's Story

Life Hey, class of '62, where are you and what are you doing? I would love hearing from you. I've lived in California since high school graduation. I married Jim and had two great kids. Roger is a computer tech for UPS...installing hardware, software and training. Lisa lives in Florida with her husband and two sons. After Roger and Lisa were out of college I decided to start a new life alone and spent the next ten years traveling all over the US, parts of Mexico and Europe. What an experience! Then I decided to settle down, get serious, and get a college education. I didn't have the best study habits in high school and have no idea how I did so well and enjoyed my classes!! My career?? I worked in school administration for 26 years. The first was a large district (60 schools)-the first in the state of CA to go bankrupt. What an experience!! The second (12 schools) is one of the richest districts in the heart of Silicon Valley. Both were great experiences. I loved...Expand for more
my work!! I an retired now and am loving every minute of it. And then...married a very dear friend of 15 years. We were planning a "honeymoon" to Africa... a hunting safari for him, a photography safari for me...however, as a result of September 11th, we've decided to keep our traveling a little closer to home for a while. Walt and I bought some land in the hills east of Hearst Castle and Big Sur and now spend a lot of time turning 120 acres of scrub oak into a "ranch." So much for retirement. But the hunting is first rate--elk, deer, wild Russian boar, turkey, rabbit, rattlesnakes!! And the wildflowers are remarkable. Enough about me!!! What about you?? I'ld love to hear from you-all...travel stories, grandparent stories, hunting stories, recipes, work experiences!!! Have any of you migrated south...to California? It's a great place to visit and live. Would enjoy hearing from you or see you!!...either here in town or at the ranch (bring TP and water!!!!)

Megan and Lauren came to camp with their mom's famous rice krispie cookies.
It's that time of year again. My moonflower is starting to bloom! It's 8:15pm and it's half way open. Should be totally open pretty soon and super fragrant. And by morning....done. So sad.
I found this rock at camp. Or is it a fossil?
Looks like a charcoal chicken to me.
Cereus: Night blooming Moon Flower.
I've had this plant for about 15 years and I've only seen it bloom twice.
It blooms for one night only during a full moon. It started opening up about 5pm. I stayed up until midnight i
